About the Nursery

Jespers Planteskole (Jespers Nursery) is a long-running family garden centre near Holstebro in the Jutland region of Denmark. It was founded in 1988 by Jesper Nielsen together with his father Tage Nielsen, and the nursery takes its name from the founder. The site is one of the larger independent garden centres in Denmark and includes one of the country’s biggest indoor greenhouse display areas. Jespers combines a traditional walk-in garden centre with a strong online business and a city-wide delivery service. Tage retired in 2000 but has kept visiting the nursery almost daily for more than two decades, and the second generation continues to run day-to-day operations.

Online Shop and Delivery

The nursery launched its full online shop in 2015, transferring the complete in-store catalogue and ordering workflow online, and recently celebrated the tenth anniversary of that launch. Because garden plants are perishable and the Danish growing season is short, the nursery built its own logistics operation from the ground up — starting with a single small delivery van and growing into a fleet of more than fifteen vans with a matching number of drivers, all branded with the distinctive Jespers butterfly. The in-house delivery arm is one of the key differences between the nursery and a pure online plant shop.

Plants, Brands and Garden Goods

The catalogue covers ground-cover plants, trees, ericaceous plants, climbers, aquatic plants, fruit trees, perennials, hedging and evergreens, herbs and summer-flowering annuals, with roses, perennials and indoor plants as the three signature categories. The shop also stocks water-garden equipment, lawnmowers and pruners, gloves, planters and granite garden ornaments, plus a full indoor-decoration and home-greenhouse line. The principal brands on the shelves are ECOstyle (organic pesticides and feeds), GARDENA (irrigation and garden tools), Juliana (greenhouses), OSMO (organic NPK fertilisers and garden care), PLUS (garden furniture), PondTeam (pond equipment) and Weibulls (seeds).

Consulting and Garden Building

Beyond selling plants, the team offers garden design, planting plans and on-site supervision for both private gardens and professional landscaping projects. The spring and summer planting windows in Denmark are short, so the in-house van fleet is also used to deliver larger trees, root-ball shrubs and heavy pots from the nursery to a customer’s garden site, letting clients take a redesign idea from plan to planted-out garden in a single working season.

Community and Local Roots

Jespers is firmly rooted in the Holstebro area — the nursery is a long-time sponsor of the local women’s handball team Team Tvis Holstebro and supports a number of Holstebro town events and horticultural shows. The legal entity is Jespers Planteskole A/S; the garden centre is open year-round and is one of the main destinations for Danish central-Jutland residents looking for plants, garden goods and face-to-face horticultural advice.
