项目起源与定位

BioLib 是一项非营利、非政治性的生物分类教育项目，由 Ondřej Zicha 主持运营，项目根基来自 Zicha 2007 年在布拉格捷克理工大学（ČVUT）完成的硕士论文。网站底部一直保留 1999-2025 的版权标记，但项目主体功能搭建从 2000 年代中期起步，多年来一直延续「维基式自由贡献 + 管理员分区审核」的运作模式。Zicha 在 2014 年 9 月 9 日的捷克《Vesmír》科普杂志撰文介绍了 BioLib 作为开放参与的生物百科，与他本人在 ČVUT FEL 完成的论文相呼应。官方网站明确说明，BioLib 并不与任何机构正式挂钩，而是依靠志愿管理员和贡献者维护。

数据库规模与覆盖范围

截至 2025 年 1 月 22 日，BioLib 收录分类单元已超过 206.9 万，比 2015 年中期的 113 万、2018 年 3 月的 121.2 万、2022 年 4 月的 182.4 万、2023 年 6 月的 193.1 万都更进了一步。2023 年的快照显示数据库包含 1,931,140 条分类单元，其中 1,476,426 个为现生物种、51,834 个为化石种，加上 701,301 个科学名称、437,111 个多语种俗名、443,467 张照片以及 6,863 条词条。覆盖范围包括植物、真菌、动物三大界，并延伸到原核生物、古菌、病毒以及化石生物群。贡献者主要使用拉丁学名，再附带捷克文、英文、德文、法文、斯洛伐克文、塞尔维亚文、瑞典文、加泰罗尼亚文、马达加斯加文等十余种语言的本土名称。

主要功能模块

BioLib 主导航列出八大模块：分类系统（System）、照片画廊（Gallery）、百科词条（Encyclopedia）、链接与文献库（Links and Literature）、论坛（Forums）、生物群落（Biotopes）、本地观察记录（Localities）、以及多语种术语词典（Glossary）。词汇表收录 7,000 余条生物学术语，可与具体分类页互通。照片画廊提供鉴定功能，注册用户可以给未鉴定图片提名，或对已有鉴定提出修改建议，管理员再对鉴定意见进行核实。本土名词库让用户在不同语言间切换同一个分类单元。链接与文献模块允许用户为某一具体分类条目附加外部链接和参考文献。

合作机构与社区贡献者

BioLib 与多家捷克国家级机构保持数据合作：捷克国家博物馆（Národní muzeum）、捷克自然保护署（AOPK ČR）、捷克两栖爬行动物学会（Česká herpetologická společnost）、波希米亚自然博物馆（Muzeum přírody Český ráj），2019 年起又加入捷克真菌科学学会（Česká vědecká společnost pro mykologii）。BioLib 还是 2018 年起 City Nature Challenge 在捷克布拉格、布尔诺、乌赫尔斯凯赫拉迪什泰、捷克布杰约维采等城市的官方数据合作伙伴。社区贡献者前 10 名分别为 Václav Hanzlík（46,332 条）、Klaus Rudolf（36,634）、Michael Kesl（23,947）、Milan Kořínek（21,321）、Lubomír Klátil（19,511）、Jan Delsing（18,577）、Jiří Kameníček（15,489）、Stanislav Krejčík（15,134）、Tomáš Vrána（12,368）、Vladimír Motyčka（10,213），均为长期业余或专业分类学者。

数据使用与开放许可

BioLib 数据通过分类单元唯一标识符对外开放，任何外部站点均可在 BioLib 上反查，并通过 [[link:URL]] 或 [[image:URL]] 的 wiki 风格语法引用具体词条或图片。引用某一分类页时，建议沿用 BioLib 提供的统一 URL 作为参考文献的一部分。需要批量导入数据（如动物分布清单、共生关系、本土名称、文献引文）时，BioLib 提供表格化批量上传接口。志愿者贡献者通过用户控制台提交观察记录，所有带 GPS 坐标的本地记录将自动同步至 AOPK ČR 的 NDOP 数据库，为捷克官方自然保护监测提供基础数据。

Project Origin and Positioning

BioLib is a non-commercial, non-political educational project dedicated to the taxonomy of plants, fungi and animals. It is led by Ondřej Zicha, who laid the technical foundation in his 2007 master’s thesis at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT FEL). The site carries a 1999-2025 copyright notice and operates as a wiki-style platform where volunteer contributors add photographs, propose determinations, fill in missing taxa, scientific synonyms and vernacular names in multiple languages, while administrators in each biological branch verify every change before publication.

Database Scale and Coverage

As of 22 January 2025 BioLib lists 2,069,436 taxa in total, including 1,646,450 recent and 58,990 fossil species, 565,335 photographs, and 7,122 glossary entries. Earlier snapshots record 1,130,000 taxa in mid-2015, 1,212,407 in March 2018, 1,824,014 in April 2022, and 1,931,140 in June 2023, when the database also reported 701,301 scientific names, 437,111 vernacular names and 443,467 images. Coverage spans plants, fungi, animals, prokaryotes, archaea, viruses and a substantial fossil branch, with vernacular names in Czech, English, German, French, Slovak, Serbian, Swedish, Catalan, Malagasy and several other languages.

Main Functional Modules

The top menu links to eight modules: the taxonomic System, the photographic Gallery, the Encyclopedia of articles, the Links and Literature database, Forums, Biotopes, Localities and a multilingual Glossary. The gallery lets any registered user propose determinations on undetermined images or contest existing ones; gallery administrators then verify the suggestion and notify both the photographer and the original determiner. The glossary serves as a cross-reference between terminology pages and individual taxa, while the encyclopedia indexes detailed species accounts. Vernacular-name pages allow visitors to switch among languages for the same taxon without leaving the species profile.

BioLib cooperates with the National Museum (Národní muzeum), the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic (AOPK ČR), the Czech Herpetological Society (Česká herpetologická společnost), the Bohemian Paradise Nature Museum (Muzeum přírody Český ráj) and, since 2019, the Czech Scientific Society for Mycology (Česká vědecká společnost pro mykologii). Since 2018 it has also been the Czech data partner of the City Nature Challenge, co-organised in Prague, Brno, Uherské Hradiště and České Budějovice. Citation Rules and Open Access

Each taxon on BioLib carries a permanent URL that can be cited from external pages using a wiki-style link syntax such as [[link:URL;text]]. Bulk imports are accepted for taxa, synonyms, vernacular names, country-level checklists, interspecific relations, keyword tags and associated literature citations. Observation records submitted through the Localities module, when tagged with GPS coordinates, are mirrored automatically into the AOPK ČR NDOP database, feeding the official Czech nature-conservation monitoring system with verified field observations.
