Database origin and scope

The Rock Garden Plant Database, hosted at flora.kadel.cz, is an open online reference maintained since the 1990s by Czech botanist Pavel Slabý, indexing scientific names and synonyms for temperate and alpine herbaceous plants used in rock garden horticulture.

Scale and coverage

Focused initially on rock garden and high-elevation alpines, the project has gradually broadened to cover a wider range of ornamental and native herbaceous taxa; its last public update on November 18, 2024, lists 24,637 species entries accompanied by more than 1,400 photographs, organized along six query axes: family, genus, territory, habitat, synonyms, and bibliography.
