About the Practice

3:0 Landschaftsarchitektur is a registered landscape architecture practice in Vienna, Austria, founded on 29 February 2000 by Dipl.-Ing. Robert Luger (Partner), Dipl.-Ing. Daniel Zimmermann ZT (Managing Director) together with Clemens Lutz and Oliver Gachowetz. The office operates as 3:0 Ziviltechnikergesellschaft FlexCo from Nestroyplatz 1/1 in Vienna’s 2nd district, holds the Ingenieurkonsendent für Landschaftsplanung licence (company register FN 652352 t, VAT ATU82047848), and is a member of the Kammer der ZiviltechnikerInnen for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland as well as the ANKÖ register. The practice combines research, design and on-site execution, focusing on climate-adaptive open spaces and public streetscape projects.

Team and Expertise

The office is led by two senior partners, Robert Luger and Daniel Zimmermann ZT, with a team of about twelve staff. Project teams are run by Dipl.-Ing. Marek Lecko, Martin Zika, Diana Wagner and Donna Tansil, while competition work is driven by Linda Scharll and Petra Nagy; student assistants Ronja Andersch, Magdalena Clewett and Simone Klager support the practice, and Dipl.-Ing. Franziska Jäger-Sunstenau coordinates the management office and press enquiries. Partner Zimmermann ZT also teaches at TU Wien (Department of Landscape Planning and Garden Art, 2020/21 guest professorship on landscape architecture for climate adaptation) and previously at BOKU Vienna (2002-2005), integrating teaching, research and practice.

Services and Research

The practice covers competition entries, urban public space and plazas, streets and neighbourhoods, residential and garden projects, healing gardens, and research and development. Core topics are climate-adaptive open space, the Schwammstadt (sponge city) stormwater principle, the MUFUWU multifunctional urban root-volume research line, the Linz tree-planting offensive and the cuulbox interdisciplinary street-design platform. Since 2018 the office has co-led the Arbeitskreis Schwammstadt with HBLFA Schönbrunn and the Bundesamt für Wasserwirtschaft, and since 2019 it has run the cuulbox together with con.sens verkehrsplanung zt gmbh and Weatherpark, merging traffic planning, meteorology and landscape architecture. The Krankenhaus Wien Nord healing gardens (competition 2008, opened 2019) were designed in cooperation with Martha Schwartz Partners and remain Austria’s first hospital project to integrate therapeutic landscapes from the start.

Selected Projects

3:0 Landschaftsarchitektur has delivered more than 80 public-space and landscape projects across Vienna, Linz, Graz, Salzburg and Innsbruck. Highlights include the Praterstraße green boulevard in Vienna (started 2019, completed October 2024), which won the 2026 Austrian Climate Adaptation CliA National Award 2nd prize in the Heat/Drought category as well as both VCÖ 2025 prizes; the Amstetten town centre redesign (more than 70 new Schwammstadt trees, completed 2024), awarded the VCÖ 2024 prize for spatial planning and unsealing; the Hauptplatz Linz and the Martin-Luther-Platz Linz, both 1st-prize winners in 2024 competitions (Martin-Luther-Platz broke ground in spring 2025 and is scheduled to finish in autumn 2026); the Kajetaner Platz Salzburg, Seecarré Baufeld 5 in Vienna Aspern, the Anitta-Müller-Cohen-Platz at the Haus der Wiener Wirtschaft, Hauptplatz Stainz, Ortszentrum Lanzenkirchen (Lower Austria’s first Schwammstadt plaza), Europaplatz Graz, Sonnenallee and Maria-Tusch-Straße in Seestadt Aspern, and the Wohnbau Gerasdorfer Straße 151 residential courtyard, mapping more than two decades of public-space work.

Industry Standing and Media Impact

Since 2008 the practice has received twelve national and international awards, including the 2026 CliA Climate Adaptation National Award 2nd prize, the 2025 VCÖ Austria and Vienna mobility prizes, the 2024 VCÖ spatial-planning prize, the 2019 Staatspreis Architektur & Nachhaltigkeit for both the Seestadt Aspern ensemble and Volksschule Hallwang, the 2018 VCÖ Vienna prize, the 2016 World Infrastructure Award for Europaplatz Graz, the 2015 Staatspreis Design, the Hans Sauer Preis 2016, the Polis Award 2016, and the 2014 IFLA Europe Project. Through cuulbox, KlimaKonkret and Arbeitskreis Schwammstadt the office feeds methods into architecture, mobility and civil-engineering networks, contributes regularly to Garten + Landschaft, Zoll+ Jahrbuch, anthos Jahrbuch, Beton + Zement, architektur Fachmagazin, Vor builder, ÖGZ and Der Standard, and in June 2026 hosted the “2. Lange Nacht der Praterstraße” open walk, anchoring its role in Vienna’s climate-adaptation public education.
