苗圃沿革

苗圃长期保持超过 1000 个玫瑰品种的常备存量，类型覆盖杂交茶香月季、丰花月季、藤本、灌丛、微型以及地被玫瑰，植株全部盆栽培育、按苗圃编号出圃。在世界范围内玫瑰的栽培品种总数估计在 30000 个以上，Casteels 苗圃的 1000 余种已经是其中相当可观的一部分，但仍坦承不可能「全收」，每年还在持续补充新品。苗圃另设有一片「玫瑰示范园（Rozentoontuin）」，把不同株型、花型、生长势的植株搭配种植，帮助访客直观比较。

参观与开放日

苗圃常规开放时间为 3 月 15 日至 11 月 15 日，逢星期四、五、六上午 9 时至下午 6 时可入场自由参观选购；6 月第二个周末与 8 月最后一个周末各举办一次开放日，配合每年出版两期目录（图录随开放日发放，作为现场寻苗用）。苗圃主张「看到什么就买什么」，每株苗在田间挂牌解释，建议访客在前往前先丈量家中花坛位置与朝向，再带尺子与笔记，便于现场比对。

苗圃与邻近同业

普特这一片小区域聚集着比利时最知名的几家玫瑰苗圃。Casteels 与 Lens 家族经营的苗圃同在 OLV Waver 周边，两家在品种来源、栽培传统上互有往来。Lens 以新品种选育闻名于世，是欧洲蔷薇属育种重镇之一；Casteels 则承接 Lens 一带的花卉种植土壤与气候条件，走品种广度路线。从普特出发顺道去 8 公里外的 LIER 老城（看 Sint-Gummarus 教堂、Nete 河、Grote Markt、Zimmerplein 与贝居安会院）常被推荐为一日游的收尾。

History

Casteels Rozen is a family-run rose nursery in Putte, in the province of Antwerp, Belgium, run by André and Magda Casteels. It sits in a part of Flanders where rose breeding and growing have been practiced for generations, in the same neighbourhood as the celebrated Lens family — the late Viktor Lens and his son Louis Lens, both of nearby OLV Waver. After taking over, André and Magda gradually shaped the nursery around the idea of stocking as wide a range as possible, rather than focusing on a single breeding line.

Varieties and Scale

The nursery keeps more than 1,000 rose varieties on hand at any one time, spanning hybrid teas, floribundas, climbers, shrubs, miniatures and ground-cover roses. All plants are grown in containers and leave the nursery labelled. Set against an estimated world total of over 30,000 cultivated rose varieties, the 1,000 kept here represent a substantial slice of what is available, and the catalogue is still added to every year. A separate show garden, the Rozentoontuin, demonstrates how different plant habits, flower forms and growth vigours combine in the open ground.

Visiting and Open Days

Casteels Rozen is open to visitors from 15 March to 15 November, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am to 6 pm. The nursery holds two open days each year — the second weekend of June and the last weekend of August — at which a printed catalogue is released. The Casteels family ask visitors to measure their garden beds at home before coming, so that the on-site labels and the plants themselves can guide the final choice.

The Wider Putte Rose District

The Putte area concentrates some of Belgium’s best-known rose nurseries in a small radius. Casteels Rozen shares its neighbourhood with the Lens family nursery of OLV Waver, with whom it has long-standing ties. Lens is internationally recognised for rose breeding and remains one of the key European centres for new cultivar development, while Casteels covers the breadth side of the trade. A day trip from Putte is commonly finished with a visit to the small town of LIER, about 8 km away, taking in Sint-Gummarus church, the river Nete, the Grote Markt, Zimmerplein and the beguinage.

Casteels Rozen is a retail family nursery selling in limited wholesale lots. Plants leave the nursery as container-grown specimens with labels.
