Society History & AOS Affiliation

The Oregon Orchid Society has promoted orchid cultivation and conservation across the Pacific Northwest since 1945, with 2026 marking the society’s 81st anniversary. In 1948, OOS became an affiliated society of the American Orchid Society, adhering to AOS judging standards and conservation guidelines. The 2025 OOS Board of Directors — President Alison Clements, Vice President Laura Saltzman, Secretary Jarrod Bouchie, Treasurer Brandon Orihuela, and committee chairs — leads the organization on a purely volunteer basis.

Membership & Monthly Programs

OOS offers two main membership tiers: Regular Membership at $24 per year (annual renewal on the purchase date, cancellable anytime) and Student Membership at $15 per year for high school and college students aged 22 and under. Member benefits include free admission to the annual Show & Sale, discounts on orchid supplies such as bark, moss, and pots, group-order discounts from domestic and international vendors, monthly meetings with expert speakers and Q&A, summer and winter auctions and potlucks, and networking opportunities with some of the top orchid growers in the Pacific Northwest. Monthly meetings are held in Portland and feature bloom displays, a speakers’ program, and member plant sales and raffles.

Annual Show & Sale & International Vendors

The 2026 OOS Show & Sale — the 81st-anniversary edition — runs April 11–12, 2026, at the Smith Memorial Student Union, Portland State University, Smith Ballroom (3rd Floor), 1825 SW Broadway, Portland, OR 97201. Hours are Saturday 10:00–17:00 and Sunday 10:00–15:00. Admission is $10 at the door (free for OOS members; children 12 and under admitted free with a ticketed adult). The 2026 vendor lineup includes Botanica LTD (Missoula, MT — Angraecoids and species orchids), Ten Shin Gardens (Taiwan — species, hybrids, Chinese Cymbidiums, Platycerium), Tropical Exotique (Chiang Mai, Thailand — species orchids, jewel orchids, Hoya, Huperzia), and Orquideas Amazonicas (Moyobamba, Peru — South American orchid species and tropical plants). Parking is available at PSU Parking Structures 1 and 2 ($7/day Saturday, $5–7/day Sunday) via Parking Kitty, ParkMobile, or PayByPhone.
