协会概况与历史
Comox 山谷园艺协会（Comox Valley Horticultural Society，简称 CVHS）是加拿大不列颠哥伦比亚省温哥华岛东岸科莫克斯山谷地区一家由志愿者运营的会员制园艺团体。协会在 BC 省正式注册为非营利组织，以「教育、共享、激励」为宗旨，为科莫克斯山谷、考特尼、库姆克斯、坎伯兰及周边 Royston、Fanny Bay、Merville、Black Creek 等社区的园艺爱好者提供交流与学习平台。协会的财年与历年同步，个人会员年费为 20 加元，家庭会员年费为 30 加元。
月度会员会议与嘉宾演讲
协会每月第三个星期一晚 7 点在考特尼市 Florence Filberg Centre 会议厅举行会员大会，7、8、12 月休会。Zoom 会议每周日下午发送注册邀请链接，线下会议晚 6 点半开门。每月邀请一位本地园艺专家或学者做主题演讲，2026 年的演讲嘉宾包括 UBC 园艺教学项目首席讲师 Allison Luke（城市林业，9 月 21 日）、Comox Valley Grow Tree Care 创办人 Aaron Wurts（树木与水，5 月 25 日）、Simon Fraser 大学科学摄影师 Ron Long（西澳野生兰花，4 月 20 日）、Brian Minter（2026 年新植物与新容器，1 月 19 日）等。
工作坊与开放花园参观
工作坊由专人委员会组织，详情可联系协会秘书。2025 至 2026 年已举办或计划举办的工作坊包括：Read Guthrie 主讲的夏季果树修剪（2026 年 7 月 11 日）、Sonia Gonsalves 与 June Ballantyne 主讲的蚯蚓堆肥（2026 年 5 月 23 日）、Marika Ai-Li 主讲的独居蜂保护、Paul Spriggs 主讲的 hypertufa 种植槽制作（2025 年 10 月 20 日）、Samantha Ferguson 主讲的野花草甸营造（2026 年 9 月 19 日）等。5 月底至 8 月底的多数周六上午，协会还为会员及外地访客安排开放花园参观，参观时段 2 至 3 小时，由花园主人或志愿者讲解植物配置与园艺技术，不需提前注册。
会员福利与社区参与
会员可参加每月演讲会、工作坊、开放花园参观、夏季社交、年度会员大会与年终抽奖。会员还能使用本地在线论坛、每月电子报、虚拟开放花园参观视频，享受多家本地园艺商家 10% 的购物折扣。协会每年 3 月举办 Spring-A-Friend 春季会员植物销售，9 月举办 Garden Harvest Display 园艺作物展示比赛，10 月召开年度会员大会，11 月举办感恩节花环制作工作坊。协会与 BC Council of Garden Clubs、MARS 游客中心、Filberg 遗产 Lodge 与公园等本地机构保持合作。
园艺资源与原住民土地致谢
协会的 Garden Matters 专栏长期发布本地园艺实用文章，主题涵盖库珀岭雨水花园、坎伯兰无障碍菜园、Comox 种子分享、鸟类友好型花园、传粉昆虫友好型乡村庭院、Comox 山谷迷迭香越冬、百里香替代草坪、番茄疫病防治等。协会另设 How-to Videos 视频专栏与 More Resources 资源汇总页，分类整理本地周边值得访问的花园、志同道合的园艺组织、园艺工具与植物清单。协会在所有 Garden Matters 文章开头使用 K’ómoks 族语「gilakas’la čɛčɛ haθɛč」致谢，承认科莫克斯山谷是 K’ómoks 第一民族的传统未割让领地。
About the Society
The Comox Valley Horticultural Society (CVHS) is a volunteer-run, membership-based horticultural society serving gardeners on the east coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. The Society is registered as a not-for-profit organization in BC. Its purpose is to provide education, resources and networking opportunities for gardeners in the Comox Valley, including the communities of Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Royston, Fanny Bay, Merville and Black Creek. Annual dues are CAD 20 for an individual and CAD 30 for a family.
Monthly Meetings and Guest Speakers
General meetings are held on the third Monday of every month at 7 pm in the Conference Hall of the Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay, BC. There are no meetings in July, August and December. Zoom registration links are emailed on Sundays; in-person doors open at 6:30 pm. Each meeting features a guest speaker. The 2026 speakers include Allison Luke (Urban Forestry, September 21), Aaron Wurts (Trees & Water, May 25), Ronald Long (Western Australia Wild Orchids, April 20), Brian Minter (New Plants for 2026, January 19), Jane Squier (Citrus and Avocados in Canada, June 15), and Janelle Gardner (Gardening Through Climate Grief, October 19).
Workshops and Open Garden Tours
Workshops are organized by a dedicated committee. Recent and upcoming workshops include Summer Fruit Tree Pruning with Read Guthrie (July 11, 2026), Vermicomposting with Sonia Gonsalves and June Ballantyne (May 23, 2026), Cavity Nesting Bees with Marika Ai-Li, Hypertufa Trough Making with Paul Spriggs (October 20, 2025), and Meadow Making with Samantha Ferguson (September 19, 2026). From late May to late August, member-only Open Garden Tours are scheduled on most Saturday mornings, typically running 2 to 3 hours and led by the garden owner or a CVHS volunteer.
Member Benefits and Community Engagement
Members enjoy monthly guest speaker meetings, workshops, Open Garden Tours, summer socials, the Annual General Meeting in October, and the year-end draws. They also gain access to the local online forum, monthly newsletters, virtual open garden tour videos, and 10% discounts at participating local garden businesses. Annual member events include the Spring-A-Friend plant sale in March, the Garden Harvest Display in September, the AGM in October, and the seasonal wreath-making workshop in November. The Society collaborates with the BC Council of Garden Clubs, the MARS Wildlife Visitor Centre, and the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park.
Garden Resources and Land Acknowledgement
The Garden Matters column publishes practical local gardening articles on topics such as rain gardens in Cumberland, accessible gardens in Courtenay, seed sharing in Comox, bird-friendly gardens at the MARS Visitor Centre, pollinator-friendly rural gardens, overwintering rosemary in Plant Hardiness Zones 7 to 8, lawn-to-thyme conversion, and tomato blight management. The Society also maintains a How-to Videos library and a More Resources page listing nearby gardens to visit and allied gardening organizations. Every Garden Matters article opens with the K’ómoks greeting “gilakas’la čɛčɛ haθɛč”, acknowledging that the Comox Valley is the Unceded Traditional Territory of the K’ómoks First Nation.
