Founded in 1892, the nursery has operated for over 130 consecutive years, making it the oldest licensed nursery in North Carolina, serving customers throughout the United States and worldwide.
History
The nursery traces its origins to 1892, when it was founded by E.C. Robbins in Massachusetts. Over more than a century, the business relocated to Highlands, N.C., then Linville, N.C., before settling in Pineola. In 1992, the nursery celebrated its centennial anniversary. Today, Robyn Fletcher, great-grandson of founder E.C. Robbins, leads the fourth-generation family business, continuing the tradition established by E.C. Robbins and his son Edward P. Robbins.

Gardens of The Blue Ridge specializes in wildflowers including Indian Pink (Spigelia marilandica), Shooting Star (Dodecatheon meadia), and Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa); ferns such as Southern Wood Fern (Thelypteris Kunthii); native orchids including Yellow Lady’s Slipper (Cypripedium pubescens); as well as trees and shrubs.
