Trading since 1951
Beringmeier is a seed merchant in Volkmarsen, in the German state of Hesse, trading since 1951 in flower seed, vegetable seed, lawn seed and flower bulbs. The registered name is Bernhard Beringmeier e.K. and the business is now run by Ramon Lenz. More than seventy years on, the customers run from people with two vegetable beds behind the house to professional nurseries with glasshouses, and the shop serves both ends.
In their own words there is no secret to the trade: the range has to be complete and someone has to be reachable when you have a question. The site puts it plainly, saying you can buy everything to do with the garden there, and that you can ring or write about seed, varieties or how to grow them.
What is on the shelves: mostly bulbs
Count the product list and there are more than eleven hundred items, seven hundred of them bulbs. Tulips alone account for two hundred and two varieties, daffodils and narcissi around ninety, crocus fifty-eight, Allium fifty, iris thirty, hyacinths twenty-one, grape hyacinths and anemones nineteen each, fritillaria sixteen and snowdrops ten, with the rest falling into mixed packs and other groups. Beyond bulbs there are a hundred and forty-seven vegetable seed items, covering tomato, cabbage, courgette, carrot, onion, lettuce, beans and asparagus; forty-three flower seed items, sixty fertilisers, fifty-five lawn seed items and fifty-two wildflower meadow mixes.
The lawn line deserves its own mention. Besides the usual park lawn and RSM standard mixes they sell a formula called Berliner Tiergarten, and a mix that is one hundred per cent Poa supina, a grass that tolerates shade and wear and suits ground under trees or a north-facing garden. The price is slow germination: twenty-one to twenty-eight days before anything shows.
The certificate behind the organic seed
Organic seed is a product line here rather than an afterthought. The site states that the firm is a supervised processor of organic seed and onion sets, certified under Article 35(1) of EU Regulation 2018/848, with AGRECO R.F. GÖDERZ GmbH in Witzenhausen as the certifier under the code DE-ÖKO-012. The current certificate runs from 31 January 2026 to 30 September 2027.
The certificate is not just a badge. The download page lists them year by year, going back to 2014 without a gap, and links to the Organicxseeds database so a customer can check whether a given variety has an organic source. Laying the paperwork and the lookup tool open like that is not that common among shops of this size.
Two shops: retail and wholesale
The website is really two: one for hobby gardeners and end customers, one for professional nurseries and wholesalers. The stock is not identical, and the wholesale side works on price tiers by quantity, which you have to apply to join. On the retail side you can order without registering, just by entering an address; an account only becomes necessary from the second order.
Payment terms contradict each other on the site. The home page says invoice payment is available from the second order, while a footer block says invoice purchase is not possible in this shop. The sensible reading is that the first applies to registered returning customers and the second to guests and first orders, but the shop has not harmonised the wording, so it is worth asking before ordering.
Postage, delivery and payment
Postage inside Germany depends on the order value: four euros ninety up to twenty-four euros ninety-nine, and six euros ninety above that. If an order mixes items with different dispatch times, postage is charged once. Shipping abroad is billed at cost.
Delivery is quoted at three to fourteen days, or as stated on the individual product page, and they say themselves that it stretches by a few days in peak season. Subscribing to the mailing list takes ten per cent off the first order.
