历史沿革
学校前身可追溯到清末新政背景下 1902 年创办的河南大学堂。其后几经更名——1912 年改办为河南公立农业专门学校，1927 年与中州大学、河南公立法政专门学校合并成立国立第五中山大学，1930 年改称河南大学农学院；1952 年全国院系调整时独立建院称河南农学院，1984 年更名为河南农业大学。2009 年成为农业农村部与河南省政府共建的第一所省属农业高校，2012 年又成为国家林业和草原局与省政府共建高校；2013 年学校牵头组建的河南粮食作物协同创新中心入选首批国家”2011计划”，2020 年入选河南省特色骨干大学，2021 年入选河南省”双一流”创建工程高校。
学科与学位
学校设有农、工、理、经、管、法、文、医、教、艺 10 大学科门类，下设 20 个学院；本科专业 89 个，其中国家级一流本科专业建设点 19 个、河南省一流本科专业建设点 23 个。在校生38278人，其中博士研究生834人、硕士研究生5782人、本科生31662人。学科建设方面，拥有 1 个一级学科国家重点学科（作物学）、2 个河南省”双一流”创建学科、4 个河南省特色骨干学科群和 1 个河南省特需急需特色骨干学科群、17 个省部级重点学科、7 个 ESI 全球前 1% 学科；设有 9 个博士后科研流动站、10 个一级学科博士学位授权点、2 个博士专业学位授权点、19 个一级学科硕士学位授权点和 20 个硕士专业学位授权类别。园艺学为一级学科河南省重点学科和一级学科博士、硕士学位授权点；风景园林学同列河南省重点学科，并设有博士专业学位授权点。
师资队伍
学校在职教职员工2700余人，其中教授、副教授等高级专业技术职务1191人，具有博士学位者1652人；汇聚中国工程院院士 6 人，各级各类人才 262 人。先后获评河南省”三全育人”综合改革试点建设高校、全国就业 50 强高校、全国创新创业 50 强高校、全国乡村振兴人才培养优质高校和全国粮食安全宣传教育基地。教师队伍中，王艳玲、张全国入选国家骨干教师，谭金芳、王川庆、赵全志、马恒运获全国模范教师称号；宁长申、夏百根、梁保松、张龙现、汤继华等被列为河南省教学名师。
科研平台与成果
学校建设有小麦玉米两熟高效生产全国重点实验室、国家小麦工程技术研究中心、”2011″河南粮食作物协同创新中心、动物生物安全三级（P3）实验室、动物免疫学国际联合研究中心等 9 个国家级科研平台与国际联合研究中心，以及神农种业实验室、龙湖现代免疫实验室 2 个河南省实验室和省部级科研平台共 105 个。”十四五”以来主持获国家科技进步奖二等奖 1 项、国家教学成果二等奖 2 项、河南省科学技术进步奖一等奖 9 项；主持国家自然科学基金项目 409 项、国家社会科学基金项目 24 项、国家重点研发计划项目 10 项、省部级科研项目 1493 项，年度科研经费突破 4.5 亿元；在 Nature 和 Science 等顶级国际期刊连续发表研究成果，产出世界首张黑麦基因组高质量精细物理图谱、首款地方鸡基因组液相芯片，并培育出黄金粮 MY73、YD268 等重要农作物新品种。
文化精神与院系设置
学校校训为”明德自强 求是力行”，源自 1924 年时任校长常志箴提出的”奋发自强 求实力行”，经不断丰富演变而成；校风为”团结勤奋 严谨求实”；校歌《绿色颂》于 1999 年正式发布，办学理念为”厚生丰民”。现任党委书记为邹松涛，党委副书记、校长由中国工程院院士周卫担任。学院设置涵盖农学、工学、理学、管理学等学科门类，其中园艺学院和风景园林学院面向园艺、园林植物与观赏园艺、果树学、蔬菜学、茶学等方向开展教学与科研，构成学校园艺与风景园林学科的院系支撑。
History
Henan Agricultural University traces its origins to the Henan University Hall, founded in 1902 during the late Qing reforms. The school was reorganized as the Henan Public Agricultural Specialized School in 1912, merged into the National Fifth Sun Yat-sen University in 1927 together with the Zhongzhou University and the Henan Public Law Specialized School, and became the Agriculture College of Henan University in 1930. After the 1952 nationwide restructuring of faculties, it was reestablished as the independent Henan Agricultural College, and was renamed Henan Agricultural University in 1984. In 2009 it became the first provincial agricultural university jointly built by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Henan provincial government; in 2012 it also became a university jointly built by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the provincial government. In 2013 the Henan Grain Crops Collaborative Innovation Center led by HAU was admitted to the first batch of the national 2011 Plan; in 2020 HAU was listed among the Henan Provincial Characteristic Backbone Universities, and in 2021 it entered the provincial Double First-Class initiative.
Disciplines and Degrees
HAU offers programs across ten academic disciplines — agriculture, engineering, science, economics, management, law, literature, medicine, education and art — and runs 20 colleges. There are 89 undergraduate majors, including 19 national-level first-class undergraduate major construction sites and 23 Henan provincial-level first-class sites. Total enrolment stands at 38,278 students, including 834 doctoral candidates, 5,782 master’s candidates and 31,662 undergraduates. Discipline-wise, the university hosts one national key first-level discipline (Crop Science), two Henan Double First-Class initiative disciplines, four Henan characteristic backbone discipline groups and one Henan special-needs backbone discipline group, 17 provincial or ministerial key disciplines, and seven ESI top-1% disciplines. HAU maintains 9 postdoctoral research stations, 10 first-level doctoral degree authorization points, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points, 19 first-level master’s degree authorization points and 20 master’s professional degree categories. Horticulture is listed among the 16 Henan first-level key disciplines and is authorized for both doctoral and master’s degrees; Landscape Architecture shares the same provincial key-discipline status and offers a doctoral professional degree.
Faculty
HAU employs more than 2,700 full-time faculty and staff, including 1,191 with senior professional titles (professor and associate professor), 1,652 holding doctoral degrees, 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and 262 high-level talents at various levels. The university has been recognized as a Henan Three-Whole Education comprehensive reform pilot institution, a National Top-50 University for Employment, a National Top-50 University for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, a National Quality Institution for Rural-Revitalization Talent Cultivation, and a National Food Security Education Base. Among named honors, Wang Yanling and Zhang Quanguo are listed as national backbone teachers; Tan Jinfang, Wang Chuanqing, Zhao Quanzhi and Ma Hengyun have been named national model teachers; Ning Changshen, Xia Baigen, Liang Baosong, Zhang Longxian and Tang Jihua are recognized as Henan provincial teaching masters.
Research Platforms and Outcomes
HAU hosts nine national-level research platforms and international joint research centers, including the National Key Laboratory of Wheat–Maize Double-Cropping High-Efficiency Production, the National Wheat Engineering Technology Research Center, the 2011 Plan Henan Grain Crops Collaborative Innovation Center, the Animal Biosafety Level-3 (P3) Laboratory, and the International Joint Research Center for Animal Immunology. It also operates two Henan provincial laboratories — the Shennong Seed Industry Laboratory and the Longhu Modern Immunology Laboratory — together with 105 provincial or ministerial-level research platforms. Since the 14th Five-Year Plan, HAU has led projects winning one second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, two second prizes of the National Teaching Achievement Award, and nine first prizes of the Henan Science and Technology Progress Award; it has held 409 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 24 National Social Science Foundation projects, 10 National Key R&D Program projects and 1,493 provincial or ministerial projects, with annual research funding exceeding 450 million yuan. Its outputs include the world’s first high-quality fine physical map of the rye genome, the first regional chicken genome liquid-phase chip, and major new crop varieties such as Huangjinliang MY73 and YD268, with research results continuously published in Nature, Science and other top international journals.
Cultural Heritage and Colleges
The university motto is “Bright Virtue and Self-Strengthening, Seeking Truth and Acting Practically”, which evolved from the 1924 formulation “Strive Hard for Self-Strengthening, Act Practically” put forward by then-President Chang Zhizhen. The school ethos is “Unity and Diligence, Rigor and Pragmatism”; the school song, Ode to Green, was officially released in 1999; and the educational philosophy is “Prospering the People through Enriched Livelihood”. The current Party Secretary is Zou Songtao, and the Deputy Party Secretary and President is Zhou Wei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. HAU runs colleges covering agronomy, engineering, science, management and other fields; among them, the College of Horticulture and the College of Landscape Architecture and Art support teaching and research in horticulture, landscape plants and ornamental horticulture, pomology, vegetable science, tea science and related directions.
