苗圃沿革
苏格兰艾德罗苗圃 Edrom Nurseries 是英国苏格兰东南部一家专营罕见高山与球根植物的家族苗圃，自 1925 年由 Edith 与 Molly Logan Hume 姐妹在贝里克郡艾德罗村创立，1933 年前后迁至现址——苏格兰东部海岸附近的科灵厄姆村以西约一英里、海拔约 600 英尺处，至今仍在同一块地上经营。苗圃最初的销售方式是姐妹俩在村边路边摆一张桌子邀请路人挑选。她们本身也是植物猎人，曾到中国与喜马拉雅地区采集新物种，这一段采集经历为苗圃后来以”罕见”和”不寻常”立身做了最初的口碑储备。
历代经营者
苗圃在长达百年的时间里先后传过四位主人。创立的 Edith 与 Molly Logan Hume 是第一代；第二代是她们的园丁 Alex Duguid，他把销售网络带到了更广的范围，并开始参加各类花展——尤其是伦敦威斯敏斯特的皇家园艺学会(RHS)花厅——从此苗圃在”稀有植物”这个方向上在英国园艺圈获得稳定认知。第三代是 James Jermyn，他接手后继续扩张了约 20 年。现任主人在 1997 年前后接手至今约 29 年，他们延续了这条路线，并且在切尔西花展(Chelsea Flower Show)赢下过金奖，在英国其他由 RHS 主办的重要花展上累计拿下过多枚金奖。
销售方式
艾德罗苗圃现在不再走大型花展路线，但仍在英国各地大量参加高山植物相关的展销会与俱乐部活动——具体是高山植物学会(Alpine Garden Society)展、苏格兰岩庭园俱乐部(Scottish Rock Garden Club)展，以及其他不定期的小型植物集市。需要现场当面挑选和提货的顾客，可以在这些展会上遇到苗圃。2019 年 1 月起，苗圃撤掉了设在场地的零售柜台，店内的参观购物被取消，目前的销售渠道只剩两个：本网站上的英国境内邮寄订单，以及上述展会的现场销售；如果买家想上门自取已预订的植株，提前预约即可。

苗圃的植物目录围绕”适合苏格兰东南部气候的稀有植物”展开，主力收集来自中国与日本，同时收录全球各地能在沿海冷凉气候下露地越冬的物种。重点类群包括龙胆属(Gentiana)、绿绒蒿属(Meconopsis)、百合属(Lilium)、独蒜兰属(Pleione)、瑞香属(Daphne)、侧金盏属(Adonis)、葱属(Allium)、黄精属(Polygonatum)、鬼臼属(Podophyllum)、鸢尾属(Iris)、酢浆草属(Oxalis)、水仙属(Narcissus)、白头翁属(Pulsatilla)、报春属(Primula)、延龄草属(Trillium)、红星花属(Rhodohypoxis)、丹参属(Salvia)、獐耳细辛属(Hepatica)、虎耳草属(Saxifraga)与杓兰属(Cypripedium)等数十个属；其中雪花莲(Galanthus nivalis)的收集品系尤为完整，是苗圃多年来的一个特色招牌。
下单与发货
订单一律只发往英国本土，2019 年 1 月后已停止对苏格兰群岛以外之外的欧洲大陆地区发货。单笔订单的小苗一般在 7 天内从苗圃发出，繁忙季或苗圃外出参展期间会略有延迟；运送由 DPD 负责并提供追踪信息与小票短信通知，比较急的订单建议提前通过该苗圃的官方联系页联系处理。
Nursery Background
Edrom Nurseries is a family-run Scottish nursery in south-east Scotland specialising in rare alpines and bulbs. It was founded in 1925 by sisters Edith and Molly Logan Hume beside the village of Edrom in Berwickshire, and moved to its present site — about a mile west of Coldingham on the Berwickshire coast, at roughly 600 feet — around 1933, the same ground it still works from today. Sales at first came from a single table set up by the road at Edrom; the two sisters were also plant collectors who brought back new species from trips to China and the Himalayas, and that collecting habit laid the basis for the nursery’s later reputation for “rare and unusual” plants.
Successive Owners
Four owners have run the nursery over its hundred-year span. Edith and Molly Logan Hume founded it; their gardener Alex Duguid took it on second and broadened the customer base, also taking the nursery into the show circuit and exhibiting at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Westminster flower halls — that period cemented the nursery’s reputation in British horticulture for unusual plants. James Jermyn ran it third and grew it for about twenty years. The present owners have run it for the past twenty-nine years (since the late 1990s); they have won Gold Medals at the Chelsea Flower Show and accumulated numerous gold medals at other major Royal Horticultural Society shows around the country.
How to Buy
Edrom no longer travels to the big flower shows. They still turn up at many of the smaller alpine plant events around Britain — Alpine Garden Society shows, Scottish Rock Garden Club shows and occasional plant fairs — where customers can browse and collect in person. On-site retail at the nursery itself ended in January 2019: the nursery no longer keeps an open shop on the ground. Today the two ways to buy plants are mail order within the UK through this website, and standing-order collection or in-person purchase at the shows they attend; buyers who want to pick up pre-ordered plants from the nursery site can do so by prior arrangement.
Plant Catalogue Range
The catalogue centres on plants that cope with the south-east Scotland climate. The main collecting strand has long focused on material from China and Japan, alongside material from elsewhere in the world that survives the cool coastal winters. The list covers dozens of genera: Gentiana, Meconopsis, Lilium, Pleione, Daphne, Adonis, Allium, Polygonatum, Podophyllum, Iris, Oxalis, Narcissus, Pulsatilla, Primula, Trillium, Rhodohypoxis, Salvia, Hepatica, Saxifraga and Cypripedium, among others. The Galanthus nivalis (snowdrop) range is one of the longest-standing specialities of the nursery.
Ordering and Dispatch
Orders are dispatched to UK mainland addresses only. After January 2019 the nursery stopped shipping to the European Union mainland because of post-Brexit regulatory changes. Plants typically leave the nursery within seven days of an order, with longer delays during busy periods or show weeks; urgent orders are best flagged in advance through the official contact page on the website. Most parcels go by DPD, who provide tracking and a one-hour delivery slot notification by SMS.
