百年沿革
温哥华岛岩石与高山花园协会于 1921 年在加拿大不列颠哥伦比亚省维多利亚创立，是北美历史最悠久的岩石与高山园艺俱乐部。协会由当地喜爱高山、沼泽与林地植物的爱好者组成，长期专注于走访、观察、记录与栽培适合本地气候的特色植物。
组织宗旨
协会致力于推动岩石与高山园艺知识的交流与实践，鼓励成员参观、研究、拍摄、描绘并培育高山植物、沼泽植物与林地植物，无论本土或外来物种均在其关注范围内。协会自我介绍强调这是一个由植物爱好者组成的小型社区，欢迎新成员和活动访客参与。
示范花园
协会在维多利亚市内的灯塔山公园维护一座岩石与高山植物示范花园 Garden in the Park，作为向公众展示高山园艺与岩石造园技艺的窗口，常年承担会员活动与公众教育的现场教学任务。花园内设有专门的 Crevice Garden 裂缝花园区域，展示以石材缝隙种植高山植物的造园手法。
活动与交流
协会每年举办春季展销会（Spring Show & Sale），并按月组织 Parlour Show 室内小型展览，方便会员展示本地可栽培的高山植物、交换种植经验。讲座与工作坊内容覆盖高山植物繁殖、岩石花园建造、容器与石槽栽培等主题。协会亦定期组织开放花园参观与野外考察，让会员观察高山植物在自然环境中的生长状态。
资源与合作
协会维护一份精选资源页面，链接到欧洲种子供应商目录、Primula World 报春花数据库、Paintbrush Gardens 裂缝花园专题网站、Jan’s Alpines 高山园艺图册以及 Norman Deno 博士关于种子萌发的经典文献。资源页同时提供学会章程与协会出版的新刊简报，是会员了解高山园艺领域最新动态的重要渠道。
A Century of Alpine Horticulture
The Vancouver Island Rock and Alpine Garden Society was established in Victoria, British Columbia, in 1921 and is the oldest rock and alpine garden club in North America. Founded by local enthusiasts of alpine, bog, and woodland plants, VIRAGS brings together gardeners who visit, study, photograph, draw, and grow these distinctive plants.
Community Purpose
VIRAGS is a community of plant lovers living near Victoria who visit, study, photograph, draw, and grow alpine plants, bog dwellers, and woodlanders, whether native or exotic. The Society encourages the propagation and cultivation of alpine plants and welcomes new members and meeting visitors interested in rock and alpine horticulture.
Demonstration Garden
The Society maintains Garden in the Park, a demonstration rock and alpine garden in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria. The garden features a Crevice Garden section that showcases stone-fissure planting techniques for alpines and serves as a hands-on teaching space for members and the wider gardening public throughout the year.
Events and Activities
VIRAGS hosts an annual Spring Show and Sale and runs monthly Parlour Shows where members display locally grown alpine material. Talks and workshops cover propagating alpines, constructing rock gardens, and growing plants in troughs and containers. The Society also organizes open gardens and excursions to observe alpine plants in their natural settings.

The Society maintains a curated resources page linking to European seed lists, the Primula World reference database, Paintbrush Gardens on crevice gardening, Jan’s Alpines photographic archive, and Dr Norman Deno’s Seed Germination Theory and Practice. The resources page also provides the Society constitution and access to current newsletters for members.
