家族与苗圃沿革

Swincar Nurseries 是英国西约克郡的一家家族苗圃，由 Dick 与 Olive Fisher 夫妇在 1964 年从邻近小镇 Otley 搬上 Chevin 山坡后接手，并一步步把荒废的苗圃改建为如今的零售苗圃。开业至今已超过五十年，一直由 Fisher 家族打理。

夫妇育有五名子女，独子 Andrew 自小便在苗圃帮工。中学毕业后 Andrew 十八岁即全职进入苗圃，并在 2006 年正式接任主理人。如今苗圃由 Andrew 与妻子 Diane 共同打理，带着四个孩子、几只边境牧羊犬与一群母鸡继续生活与工作在苗圃里。

苗圃品类与销售范围

苗圃以自产应季盆景、吊篮与盆栽植物为主，同时也从英国本地及荷兰、比利时的供应商处采购灌木、观赏树木、月季、果树与多年生植物。Andrew 本人定期走访荷兰与比利时的种植者以保证进货品相，并持续从业内领先的育种者手中引入新优品种。

店内常年可见的产品线包括室内绿植、观赏树木与灌木、种薯与洋葱苗球根、果树、月季、各类堆肥、砾石与植料、Kent & Stowe 系列工具，以及配套的陶罐与园艺饰品。无论园艺新手还是老手，都能在店内找到适合自家庭院或阳台的植物。

咖啡馆烘焙坊与本地配送

苗圃内附设咖啡馆与烘焙坊，名叫 The Choccy Pig，使用来自利兹本地的 MAUD 咖啡烘焙商提供的豆子，堂食与外带并行，不接受预约，亦欢迎宠物犬在座位区停留。烘焙产品每日现场烤制，菜单随季节轮换，以手工与本地食材为主。

苗圃同时提供周边地区的堆肥与重物本地配送服务，按距离分档收费，覆盖 Burley in Wharfedale、Ilkley、Horsforth、Harrogate 等西约克郡主要城镇。顾客也可通过其网店购买当季植物、堆肥与礼品券，并到店自提或申请配送。

生态投入与可持续运营

苗圃向来重视节能减排。早年曾在利兹市内率先架设小型风机为照明供电；2014 年夏季又投入四台奥地利 Guntamatic Biocom 生物质锅炉，取代原有的三台燃油锅炉，并配套新建可储存二十吨木质颗粒的燃料仓与配套风机房，为温室、办公区与工房提供全自动供热。

近年来苗圃又在卖场外侧加建可拆卸顶棚，冬春季节可为顾客与植物挡风遮雨遮霜，夏季则可拆除还原为开放式卖场，使购物环境在恶劣天气下依然可用，也减少了植物在运输与展示过程中的损耗。

Family and Nursery History

Swincar Nurseries is a family-run nursery in West Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1964 when Dick and Olive Fisher moved up the Chevin hillside from the neighbouring town of Otley and gradually restored a dilapidated growing nursery into the retail business customers see today. The nursery has been developed and nurtured by the Fisher family for over fifty years.

The couple had five children, and their only son Andrew became increasingly involved in the day-to-day running of the nursery from an early age. He began working full-time at Swincar aged eighteen after leaving school and formally took over the helm in 2006. Today the nursery is run by Andrew and his wife Diane, alongside their four children, a few border collies and a small flock of hens.

Plants and Product Range

The nursery specialises in growing seasonal plants, hanging baskets and pot plants on its own site. It also sources trees, shrubs, roses, fruit trees and perennials from trusted growers in the UK, Holland and Belgium. Andrew visits Dutch and Belgian growers in person to check stock quality and keeps bringing in new cultivars from leading breeders.

The shop floor carries house plants, ornamental trees and shrubs, seed potatoes and onion sets, fruit trees, roses, composts, grit and gravel, Kent & Stowe tools and a selection of ceramic pots and garden accessories. Whether customers are just starting out or have gardened for years, the team is on hand to help pick the right plants for an outdoor bed or a sunny windowsill.

Coffee Shop Bakery and Local Delivery

Inside the nursery sits a coffee shop and bakery called The Choccy Pig. The coffee is sourced from MAUD coffee roasters, who roast locally in Leeds. It is served both dine-in and takeaway, the venue is walk-in only and dogs are welcome in the seating area. Baked goods are made fresh on site every day and the counter changes with the seasons, with most items built around fresh local ingredients.

The nursery also runs a local delivery service for compost and other heavy products, charged by distance band. Coverage spans Burley in Wharfedale, Ilkley, Horsforth and Harrogate among other West Yorkshire towns. Customers can order seasonal plants, compost and gift vouchers through the online shop for collection in store or local delivery.

Sustainability and Operations

The nursery has long invested in greener operations. In earlier years it erected what was reported to be the first wind turbine in Leeds to power lighting. In the summer of 2014 it installed four Austrian Guntamatic Biocom biomass boilers, replacing three oil-fired units, and added a new boiler house and fuel store holding twenty tons of wood pellets to provide automatic heating for all the glasshouses, offices and workshops.

More recently the outdoor sales area has been rebuilt with a removable canopy that shelters customers and plants through wind, rain and frost in winter and can be taken down in summer to restore an open-air feel. The refurbishment keeps the shopping experience usable in poor weather and reduces plant losses on the sales benches.

The nursery sits on the Chevin hillside near Guiseley in West Yorkshire, within easy reach of Menston, Ilkley, Horsforth, Leeds and Harrogate. It is straightforward to reach by car or by local bus services. Opening hours run from 8.30 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and 9.30 am to 4.30 pm on Sundays, seven days a week.
