苗圃概况

佛利山苗圃 (Mount Folly Nurseries) 是英国南部汉普郡的一家家族经营传统苗圃,1984 年创立,至今仍由家族成员亲自打理。苗圃九成以上的盆花、吊篮与种苗都在本地苗床和温室里完成生产,母本扩繁、移苗、出货都由自家工人一路跟踪,因此品种结构和价格区间相对稳定。苗圃位于北博亨特 (North Boarhunt),距离朴茨茅斯港和南安普敦都在二十多分钟车程,是南英格兰爱花家庭、本土园艺爱好者和花艺工作室常去的一处实物采购点。

苗圃常年供应几个大类:倒挂金钟 (Fuchsia)、天竺葵 (Geranium)、四季秋海棠与一年生花境苗 (Bedding Plants)、露台盆栽 (Patio Plants)、球根秋海棠 (Tuberous Begonias)、多年生宿根花卉 (Perennials)、绿篱植物 (Hedging)、蔬果香草苗 (Veg & Herbs)、吊篮 (Hanging Baskets) 和攀缘植物 (Climbers)。倒挂金钟和球根秋海棠是常年维持的最强两项,吊篮从 5 月底开始批量出货。店内同时接受预订挂篮,先选款,苗圃代为养护,5 月底前取走即可。

自繁与品质

苗圃自家母本扩繁后,再由工人把小苗移到穴盘 (mini-plugs) 和花盆中培育成成品,因此品种、数量、出货节奏都可以自己掌握。这种慢节奏的小规模方式在英国南部已经不算常见,大多数小苗圃都转向单纯分销。店里还保留了按托盘 (tray) 出售的睡莲插苗,110 株一托,长期按一个固定价出,适合学校、社区花园和家庭爱好者批量采购。

营业信息

苗圃周一至周六每天上午 9 点开到下午 5 点,周日闭店。受英国植物护照 (Plant Passport) 法规限制,店内已停办网售业务,只在苗圃现场销售,大批量或大型灌木、乔木可在汉普郡本地一定范围内安排货车配送,并按地址距离计费。下单前最好电话确认品种和数量是否到位。苗圃在天鹅池 (Swim Spa) 和 Pool Pro 热水缸这两项业务上设有合作展区,但都只是园艺主业之外的副线。

苗圃历史

1984 年创立之后,佛利山苗圃一直保持着小家族苗圃的运营节奏——员工既参与冬季扩繁,也在春末夏季的销售高峰轮流上岗,顾客挑花时身边总能问到种过同一品种的店员。苗圃创立四十年来没换过地点,母本资源、工人和顾客群都相对稳定,这种老式传统苗圃在英国南部新住宅开发潮中已经越来越少。

About the Nursery

Mount Folly Nurseries is a long-running family nursery in North Boarhunt, Hampshire, in the south of England. Founded in 1984, it is still operated by the founding family. Around 95 percent of the potted plants, hanging baskets and bedding the nursery sells are propagated and grown on site from its own mother stock, so variety, quality and price can be controlled in-house. The site is around half an hour from both Portsmouth and Southampton.

Main Range

The nursery supplies several main categories across the gardening year: Fuchsias, Geraniums, Bedding Plants, Patio Plants, Tuberous Begonias, Perennials, Hedging, vegetable and herb plants, Hanging Baskets and Climbers. Fuchsias and Tuberous Begonias are the two longest-running specialities. Hanging baskets are reserved in advance and looked after on site until late May. Mini-plug bedding begonias are sold by tray, with green, dark and mixed foliage in scarlet, rose, white or mixed colours.

In-House Propagation

Most plants are propagated by hand from the nursery’s own mother stock, then pricked out into mini-plugs or potted up into finished sizes by staff. That hands-on approach is unusual for a small nursery in the south of England today and lets the nursery keep tight control of variety, timing and price. Staff are involved with both winter propagation and peak-season retail, so help from someone who has actually grown the plant is usually close at hand.

Opening and Service

The nursery is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and closed on Sunday. Online ordering has been discontinued under UK Plant Passport legislation, and all sales are now made directly from the site. Local delivery can be arranged for large orders and for oversize shrubs and trees, with charges depending on postcode. Telephone orders can be placed for mini-plug batches in advance.

History

Mount Folly Nurseries was set up in 1984 and has stayed in the same family and at the same location ever since. Over four decades the mother-stock collection, the small staff team and the regular customer base have stayed largely in place. The nursery has kept a deliberately small, traditional family-grower model while many similar-sized sites around the south of England have closed or turned into pure resale outlets.
