Family Roots on the Prairies
Eagle Lake Nurseries was founded in 1970 by Tony Heuver on native pastureland near Strathmore, Alberta. Despite a neighboring farmer’s early warning that trees and sod could not be grown on such soil, the family-owned nursery has built five decades of horticultural production, serving landscapers, garden centers, landscape architects and municipalities across Western Canada and the northern United States with prairie-hardy trees, shrubs and perennials.
Production Footprint and Certifications
The nursery encompasses more than 1,000 acres of production land, including field-dug caliper trees, potted trees, container-grown shrubs and a wide catalogue of prairie-hardy perennials. Eagle Lake Nurseries has been CNCI Clean Plants certified since 2009, the program’s inaugural year, and has held the Landscape Industry Accredited designation since 2018. The nursery is a member of the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA) and participates in North American industry research, trade shows and management workshops.
Plant Catalogue and Service Workflow
Core products include field-dug caliper trees in 32″-44″ B&B sizes, potted and container-grown shrubs, and perennials covering more than 700 varieties bred for southern Alberta’s climate. Customers consult the online Plant Availability Database and Plant Info Guide for current stock and species data. The nursery operates by appointment, serving commercial landscapers, residential landscapers, garden centers, landscape architects and local governments, and also accepts small orders from individual homeowners. Account setup and payment terms follow the nursery’s latest public information.
