History and Design

Washington Park Arboretum is located on the western shore of Lake Washington, a few miles from downtown Seattle. Founded in 1934 and designed with the involvement of the Olmsted Brothers firm, the 230-acre urban green space combines woodlands, wetlands, gardens, and walking trails. It is a public destination jointly connected with Seattle Parks and Recreation, the University of Washington Botanic Gardens, and the Arboretum Foundation.

Plant Collections

The Arboretum contains more than 40,000 plants from around the world, including approximately 10,000 trees.
