The RHS Campaign for School Gardening The Association of Gardens Trusts、The Garden History Society、The Garden Museum 共同组成 Working in Partnership(WiP)协作框架,年度共享展览、讲座与教育主题。
Institutional Background and Host Trust
Parks & Gardens UK (PGUK) is the leading free online resource for historic parks, gardens and designed landscapes in the United Kingdom. It is hosted by the Hestercombe Gardens Trust, based in Somerset, England, and provides accurate, freely accessible academic information on UK parks, gardens, designed landscapes and the people and organisations associated with their promotion, conservation and management.
Online Archive of UK Historic Parks and Gardens
The PGUK archive currently holds records of almost 10,000 historic designed landscape sites and over 2,400 biographies of associated people and organisations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Users can search the archive by name, locality, period or feature and access results through an interactive map, county-level browsing or text-based search.
Conservation Management Plans Archive (CMP)
PGUK also curates the Hestercombe Archive of Conservation Management Plans (CMPs), which holds metadata and access links for over 1,700 CMPs covering UK historic parks and gardens. Conservation Management Plans are key tools in the UK heritage sector, capturing the history, current condition and future management strategy of each site. The CMP archive continues the research programme originally begun by the Garden History Society (GHS) and continued by its successor The Gardens Trust (TGT).
Education, Partnerships and Public Engagement
The PGUK Knowledge section includes Historical and Contemporary Profiles of landscape designers, owners and campaigners, a Garden History teaching resource tailored to Key Stage 1–4 curricula, a Glossary of landscape terms and a curated set of Useful Links. PGUK works in partnership with The Association of Gardens Trusts, The Garden History Society, The Garden Museum and related bodies through the Working in Partnership (WiP) initiative, contributing to shared exhibitions, lectures and educational themes each year.
Volunteers, Research and Public Support
PGUK is sustained by volunteers and public donations. Research volunteers use the PGUK Research Recording Form to submit site histories; data-entry volunteers based at Hestercombe maintain the database and upload new photographs. The public can support PGUK through one-off or regular donations or via the easyfundraising shopping giving programme, helping the archive remain freely available to future generations.
