苗圃概况与历史沿革

Rosen Tantau 是德国最老牌的月季育种企业之一。1906 年 1 月 6 日，Mathias Tantau senior（1882-1953）在石荷州乌埃特森创立了这家苗圃，最初做的是玫瑰砧木、果树和林木的扦插繁殖，一战前每年已经能出 25 万棵庭院月季和几百万株砧木。一战让苗圃停摆，直到 1919 年 Tantau 本人推出自己育出的前两个品种 Stadtrat Main 和 Schöne von Holstein，公司才算真正走上育种这条路。

Mathias Tantau senior 1953 年去世后，儿子 Mathias Tantau junior（1912-2006）接班，育种方向从此转向杂交茶香月季和切花月季：Super Star、Duftwolke、Mainzer Fastnacht、Pariser Charme、Whisky、Erotika、Polarstern 一连串品种在 1960-70 年代打响了 Tantau 在欧洲月季圈的名声。现在对外运营的公司主体是 Rosen Tantau Vertrieb GmbH & Co. Rosen Tantau 的零售生意主要走两条线：自有 rosen-tantau.com 在线商店直接面向家庭园艺用户，批发则面向 Erwerbsgärtner（专业种植者）和园林项目方。在线商店同时卖 Containerrosen（容器栽培的盆栽苗）和 wurzelnackte Rosen（裸根苗）两种规格：Containerrosen 大致 5 月中到 9 月末供应，裸根苗是 10 月末到次年 4 月初，高杆月季的发货窗口收得更紧一点，约 10 月底/11 月初到 4 月底。买家可以一次性在 rosen-tantau.com 下单，也可以要一本免费的 Gesamtkatalog（综合目录），Katalog bestellen 页面留地址就行，公司会寄过来。

批发端有自己的运费政策（Versandkosten Erwerbsgärtner），德国境内一箱裸根/容器玫瑰运费从 9.95 € 起，加高杆月季一箱 16.50 €，超过 300 棵裸根苗或 24 棵容器苗改用货盘整车发送，单独询价。终端方面公司长期做 Containerrosen 20% Saisonfinale、首次注册账户 10% 优惠券这类常见促销，对应收款方式支持 Vorkasse（预付）、Rechnung（赊账）和 PayPal 三种，发往德国以外必须先打款。

About the Nursery and Its History

Rosen Tantau is one of the oldest rose breeders in Germany. It was founded on 6 January 1906 by Mathias Tantau senior (1882–1953) in Uetersen, Schleswig-Holstein. The nursery began as a propagation business for rose understocks, fruit trees and forest trees; by 1914 annual output had reached about 250,000 garden rose bushes, several thousand standard roses and up to three million understocks. The First World War halted this growth, and Tantau did not return to breeding in his own right until 1919, when he introduced his first two varieties, the polyantha roses Stadtrat Main and Schöne von Holstein.

After Mathias Tantau senior retired, his son Mathias Tantau junior (1912–2006) took over and shifted the firm’s focus toward hybrid tea and cut-flower breeding. The 1960s and 1970s produced an internationally recognised run of varieties — Super Star, Duftwolke, Mainzer Fastnacht, Pariser Charme, Whisky, Erotika, Polarstern — that cemented Tantau’s reputation across the European rose trade. Today the operating entity is Rosen Tantau Vertrieb GmbH & Co. KG, still based on Tornescher Weg in Uetersen. The website describes itself as a rose nursery with more than 110 years of tradition and frames rose and cut-flower growing as a craft passed down through the family.

Variety System and Product Groups

The site groups its roses into nine product lines by intended use: Zwergrosen (miniature roses), Kleinstrauchrosen (small shrub roses, also sold as Bodendeckerrosen), Beetrosen (bed roses), Edelrosen (large-flowered hybrid teas), Kletterrosen (climbing roses), Strauchrosen (shrub roses), Park- und Wildrosen (park and wild roses), Duftrosen (fragrant roses) and Stammrosen (standard or tree roses). The standard Gartenrosen catalogue covers about 250 varieties. Each variety sheet carries the official photograph, flower and growth description, ADR rating where available, fragrance intensity (up to five stars) and winter-hardiness rating, all referenced to growing experience in northern Germany.

Beyond the core groups, Rosen Tantau runs a number of clearly differentiated product lines. The Bieneweide® / Biene series is built around pollinator-friendly varieties, Park- und Wildrosen emphasises a more naturalistic look, Duftrosen highlights fragrance, and the Orienta® series is the firm’s attempt to cross Central Asian wild species such as Rosa persica with modern garden roses — a type long considered unsuitable for garden use. Orienta® Milya was the breakthrough: on 17 June 2025 it received the Goldene Rose von Baden-Baden at the international rose novelty competition, the first time a Persica hybrid has won the prize in the competition’s 73-year history.

Sales Channels and Buying Options

Rosen Tantau reaches customers through its own online shop on rosen-tantau.com and a separate wholesale channel for Erwerbsgärtner (commercial growers) and landscape projects. The online shop offers Containerrosen (container-grown plants) and wurzelnackte Rosen (bare-root plants). Container roses are sold roughly from mid-May to the end of September, bare-root roses from late October to early April, and standard / tree roses from late October or early November to the end of April. Customers can also order a free printed Gesamtkatalog (general catalogue) through the Katalog bestellen page.

The wholesale side has its own Versandkosten Erwerbsgärtner shipping policy: within Germany a carton of bare-root or container roses without standards is sold from €9.95 and a carton with standards from €16.50, while orders above 300 bare-root plants or 24 container plants go on a CC container, pallet or wooden rack and require a separate quote. Retail promotions include a 20 per cent Containerrosen Saisonfinale and a 10 per cent welcome discount for newly registered accounts. Payment options are Vorkasse (prepayment), Rechnung (invoice) and PayPal, with prepayment required for shipments outside Germany.
