协会简介与宗旨
温哥华岛盆景协会（Vancouver Island Bonsai Society, 简称 VIBS）是由加拿大不列颠哥伦比亚省维多利亚地区盆景爱好者自愿组成的非营利性专业社团，常年以盆景教育与本地社区联结为两大宗旨。协会以太平洋园艺中心（Horticultural Centre of the Pacific, HCP）内的 Couvelier Pavilion 作为月度例会的固定场地，并通过与 HCP 合作运营加拿大西部唯一的户外盆景专类园，向本地居民和访客展示盆景艺术在温哥华岛气候条件下的发展脉络与作品风貌。
月度例会与场地
协会例会安排在每月第三个周二晚 7 时，地点设在太平洋园艺中心 Couvelier Pavilion 会议厅；每年 8 月、12 月和 1 月休会。例会议题紧扣季节性养护与造型需要，春季常以日本枫的展示与示范为主，夏季转入苗圃素材的现场整形实操，秋季则集中于十月会员树木拍卖与年度展销会的筹备工作。每月议题与时间安排以官网 “Meetings” 与 “Upcoming Meetings” 版块公布的版本为准。
教学、示范与现场工作坊
面向不同阶段的爱好者，协会定期开设从基础识别到进阶造型的系列工作坊与现场示范。除常规例会中的演示环节外，2026—2027 年规划的三段式长周期工作坊以一年半为跨度，由协会提供盆器与苗木，带领会员在多季节内跟踪同一素材，从选材、整姿、上盆到日常养护逐步完成本土风格的盆景作品。年度展销期间，协会另设评审与示范环节，将会员习作置于公共视野中接受同行反馈。
实地参访、本地展销与年度拍卖
协会倡导走出例会场地、通过实地参访拓展视野。年度计划中的参访活动包括温哥华本地盆景苗圃、坎贝尔河地区会员园与本地盆景园，以及维多利亚市内与园艺相关的公共活动，例如 Moss St. Paint In 艺术节中的现场展示。年度秋季树木拍卖是协会的传统活动，会员之间通过公开竞价完成树木流转，既是作品交流平台，也是协会经费的重要来源。

Society Overview and Mission
The Vancouver Island Bonsai Society (VIBS) is a volunteer-run, non-profit bonsai society based in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The Society is dedicated to two parallel goals: bonsai education and the cultivation of a local community of practice. Through a long-standing partnership with the Horticultural Centre of the Pacific (HCP), VIBS uses the Couvelier Pavilion for monthly meetings and curates Western Canada’s only outdoor bonsai garden, displaying more than sixty specimen trees and serving as a living reference for the development of bonsai under the temperate rainforest conditions of coastal British Columbia.
Monthly Meetings and Venue
Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM in the Couvelier Pavilion at HCP, with the Society taking a recess in August, December and January. The seasonal calendar shapes the agenda: spring sessions typically feature Japanese maple presentations and demonstrations, summer shifts to hands-on styling of nursery stock, and autumn focuses on preparing material for the October sale and the annual members’ auction. Demonstrations, Workshops and Long-Format Training
Beyond monthly meetings, VIBS organises demonstrations and multi-session workshops aimed at hobbyists at every skill level. A notable 2026–2027 programme is a three-session, eighteen-month workshop in which the Society supplies pots and nursery stock and guides members through a full development cycle, from initial selection and styling to repotting and aftercare. The annual show adds a public-facing layer, with member trees exhibited for peer critique and demonstration.
Field Trips, Local Outreach and Annual Auction
VIBS encourages members to step outside the meeting hall and engage with the wider Pacific Northwest bonsai scene. Planned field trips include visits to Vancouver-area nurseries, to member gardens and local bonsai collections near Campbell River, and to community events in Greater Victoria, including the Society’s booth at the Moss Street Paint-In. The annual autumn members’ auction remains a Society tradition, providing a venue for the redistribution of trees between members and contributing to the Society’s operating funds.

Residents who encounter problems with a tree at home can submit a question through the “Bonsai HELP!” form on the Society’s website, while more complex cases are usually addressed in person at a regular meeting.
