Bonsai Society of Upstate New York

纽约州北部盆景协会(Bonsai Society of Upstate New York)是一家成立于1972年的非营利组织,致力于在纽约州北部地区推广和普及盆景园艺艺术。2016年正式注册为501c(3)教育性非营利机构,总部位于罗切斯特市(Rochester),是美国东北部重要的盆景爱好者组织之一。协会除盆景外也关注水石艺术(Suiseki)——一种以天然石头呈现山水景观的传统日本艺术形式。

协会概况

创立历史

协会创立之初,定期会议曾在Henrietta镇政厅社区活动室举行。首届展览在Highland Park的”城堡”(The Castle)——公民花园中心举办,随后多次迁移场地,包括门罗县博览会、布朗克斯协作推广中心、圣约翰疗养院以及罗切斯特博物馆与科学中心的艾森哈特礼堂,如今固定在门罗社区医院举办。历任会长包括Alois Bobbe、Victor Mellen、Robert Nilsen、Harvey Carapella、Joe Noga、Bill Valavanis、Brenta Sullivan、Andrea Petitto、Dan Hraber、Jim Dolce及现任会长Marc Arpag。

会员福利

会员每年仅需缴纳50美元会费即可享受丰富权益:每月出版《盆景公告》(Bonsai Billboard)迅讯,提供协会动态和季节性盆景知识;每月例会邀请国内外盆景艺术家进行教育讲座;会员可参加艺术家工作坊;协会拥有涵盖各类盆景主题的书刊和录像带资料库;会员还能与经验丰富的本地爱好者交流互动。

Society Overview

The Bonsai Society of Upstate New York is a non-profit organization founded in 1972, dedicated to promoting and spreading the horticultural art of bonsai throughout upstate New York. In 2016, the society was formally registered as a 501c(3) educational non-profit organization. Headquartered in Rochester, it is one of the important bonsai enthusiast organizations in the northeastern United States. In addition to bonsai, the society also focuses on Suiseki – a traditional Japanese art form that presents miniature landscape scenes using natural stones.

Founding History

In its early days, regular meetings were held at the Henrietta Town Hall Community Room. The first exhibition was held at “The Castle” – Civic Garden Center in Highland Park, followed by multiple venue changes including the Monroe County Fairgrounds, the Monroe County Cooperative Extension in Brighton, St. John’s Nursing Home, and the Eisenhart Auditorium of the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Today, exhibitions are held at Monroe Community Hospital. Past presidents include Alois Bobbe, Victor Mellen, Robert Nilsen, Harvey Carapella, Joe Noga, Bill Valavanis, Brenta Sullivan, Andrea Petitto, Dan Hraber, Jim Dolce, and current president Marc Arpag.

Membership Benefits

Annual membership dues are only $50 per individual household per calendar year. Members receive the monthly “Bonsai Billboard” newsletter with club event information and seasonal bonsai articles. Monthly meetings feature educational programs by nationally and internationally renowned bonsai artists. Members have access to workshops with these artists and an extensive library of books and videotapes on a wide range of bonsai topics. Members also connect with other local bonsai enthusiasts of diverse experience and expertise.

Exhibitions and Activities

The society holds annual bonsai exhibitions showcasing the finest bonsai works from the upstate New York region, open to public viewing. The annual exhibition is one of the society’s most important events, attracting bonsai enthusiasts from across the state. Additionally, the society organizes periodic Suiseki displays and workshops, enriching members’ cultural experiences.
