Unex Inc. began as a true Dutch family business in 1976, with the goal of supplying the United States with high quality flower bulbs. Over the decades it has grown into one of the leading Dutch exporters of Dutch-grown flower bulbs and perennial plants. CEO Niels Mulder takes pride in a solid team and grower relationships spanning generations, noting that most workers and contract growers are long-term partners who together uphold the company’s values and service.
Dutch Bulbs and Perennial Exports
As one of the leading Dutch exporters, Unex Inc. ships high quality flower bulbs and perennials grown and cultivated in The Netherlands. The company holds growing contracts with more than 200 specialty growers across the country. Fresh dug spring flowering bulbs are shipped weekly from July to October for the retail, landscape, mail order and forcing industry, while bare root perennials are shipped worldwide from December to April to meet seasonal planting needs.
Product Range and Packaging Concepts
The company actively takes part in product development for different consumer markets, developing packaging concepts for flower bulb and perennial programs. Its assortment includes spring and summer flower bulbs and roots such as Dahlias, Gladiolus, Begonias, Oxalis, Cannas, Callas, Eucomis, Gloriosa and Strawberries, alongside a complete perennial listing. Branding is a specialty, and with a full range of packing machines Unex Inc. tailors retail and mail order packaging to each client’s brand needs.
Storage, Logistics and Global Distribution
Reliable transportation is central to the business. Unex Inc. operates two locations, one in The Netherlands and one in the United States. The Dutch facility offers about 50,000 square feet of storage, grading and packing space with climate-controlled rooms holding products between minus 2 and 30 degrees Celsius. The U.S. base in Southwest Michigan provides roughly 30,000 square feet of temperature-controlled warehouse and office space for mail order fulfillment and on-demand distribution.
