A family business since 1989
Kébol is a family business in Rijsenhout, in the Dutch province of North Holland. Since 1989 it has produced, prepared, traded and marketed flower bulbs and perennials. More than thirty colleagues work on the site today, handling prepacking, forcing and inspection on their own premises. The company’s motto is that colourful packing is what sells the bulbs.
The scale is stated on its own website: over seventy-five million flower bulbs and six million bare root perennials a year, going to more than forty countries. The trade began thirty-odd years ago packing and private labelling for other people, before the company added its own nursery, its own design team and its own fields in Peru.
Amaryllis is the core, with a nursery of their own in Peru
Amaryllis is the main line. The nursery in Peru is called Chan Chan Amaryl and turned ten in 2026. Bulbs grown there are lifted ahead of the Dutch season, so they reach European shops in early autumn, a step ahead of locally grown stock. The nursery works to both GlobalG.A.P. and GRASP, and the company’s own catalogue credits it with twenty years of producing and trading amaryllis.
Varieties and formats are chosen carefully. Amorita Danu is the red one, giving up to three stems per bulb with five or six flowers on each. Potted, it comes in fourteen and seventeen centimetre pots, each with at least two visible stems. Forced sprouts are graded as well, at one to two centimetres or three to five, picked to the customer’s requirement and then held in cold storage ready to go.

Three product lines, four ways to market
The range has three parts: amaryllis, flower bulbs and perennials. The perennial business traded for thirty-five years under the name Darwin Plants and deals in bare root plants, green ones such as hosta and heuchera and flowering ones such as peony and astilbe. On the wholesale side bulbs are bought straight from growers in several countries and come in small, medium and large barrels.
There are four markets: retail, wholesale, growers and mail order. Growers are served from both Peru and Holland, which makes it possible to have bulbs lined up for the Christmas and Chinese New Year season. Wholesale and institutional buyers can take single crates or bulk in EFC crates, which are collected again after use. Mail order works in small packs, and the catalogue offers photo material for webshops.
The packaging design is done in-house
The design team sits inside the company and spends its days tracking trends, watching how consumers buy, visiting show gardens and trade fairs, and checking whether transport and packaging will actually work. On the retail side the products sit under the Amaryllis Experience Collection: Touch of Wax, waxed bulbs that flower without water; the Amorita Kit, a bulb in a pot with compost; the Christmas Showbox; and the X-Mas Ball in red, white, silver or gold.
Private label work is taken on as well. Paper bags, burlap bags, boxes, counter displays, pots, sleeves, trays and crates can all be drawn for a customer. The company is also working towards paper packaging that can be recycled and composted, together with EFC crates for wholesale and retail alike.
Certification, inspection and the site’s own electricity
Several marks appear on the site: MPS-Florimark for good trade practice, MPS-ABC, GGN and GlobalG.A.P., with SKAL for the organic range. Flower bulbs and perennials go out with the phytosanitary documents they need and have been through the required inspections. Quality starts with working with growers who have a good name in the market, and every batch moving in or out is checked by hand.
The production site at Rijsenhout carries 392 solar panels over 800 square metres of roof, which covers nearly all of the site’s own electricity. The cold rooms run on natural refrigerants such as ammonia, with a heat recovery system and LED lighting throughout. Goods for the United States are held by partner Bloomaker, who then hand them over to the customer.
