协会概况
美国园艺科学协会 American Society for Horticultural Science（ASHS）创立于 1903 年，是全球历史最悠久、影响最广泛的园艺科学专业学术组织之一，总部设于美国弗吉尼亚州亚历山德里亚。协会以推动与鼓励全国性及国际性的园艺与植物科学领域科研和教育为使命，由来自 50 个州和全球 60 个国家的 4800 余名会员组成，涵盖科学家、教育工作者、学生、景观与草坪管理者、政府部门、推广人员以及行业专业人士。

Association Overview
The American Society for Horticultural Science (ASHS), founded in 1903 and headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, is one of the oldest and most respected professional societies for horticultural science worldwide. Its mission is to promote and encourage national and international interest in scientific research and education in all branches of horticulture and plant science. The society has more than 4,800 members across all 50 U.S. states and 60 countries, including scientists, educators, students, landscape and turf managers, government and extension professionals, and industry practitioners.
Disciplines and Membership
ASHS members address the full horticultural value chain, focusing on breeding, propagation, production and management, harvesting, handling and storage, processing, marketing, and use of horticultural plants and products. The society organizes more than 40 Professional Interest Groups (Working Groups) covering fruit, vegetable, ornamental, nursery, viticulture, tropical, postharvest, genetics and germplasm, plant nutrition, weed and pest management, plasticulture, computer applications, and many other subfields. Members can join one or more working groups to participate in focused scientific exchange.
Peer-Reviewed Journals
ASHS publishes three peer-reviewed open-access journals. The Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science (JASHS) advances fundamental horticultural science. HortScience covers applied horticultural research and cultivar or germplasm releases. HortTechnology focuses on practical horticulture, extension, and teaching. The journals accept original research articles, cultivar releases, special issue proposals, and preprints, providing an authoritative publication venue recognized across the international horticultural research community.
Certification, Education, and Services
ASHS administers the Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH) credential for horticulture practitioners. Member resources include the Career Center, Mentoring Program, Collaboration Center, Webinars, and Podcasts. The society hosts an Annual Conference for oral and poster sessions and industry networking, and recognizes excellence through Career Awards, Outstanding Publication Awards, the Esmaeil and Bahar Fallahi Award, and the Pi Alpha Xi Endowment, supporting students and early-career scholars.
Advocacy and Public Engagement
ASHS communicates regularly with federal policymakers on issues that affect the horticultural industry, including plant health, pesticide regulation, pollinator protection, and urban horticulture extension. Through the HortLegends program and Horticultural Landmark Awards, ASHS recognizes gardens, individuals, and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to horticultural science.
