德国水花园爱好者协会（Gesellschaft der Wassergartenfreunde，简称GDW）成立于1993年，是由池塘所有者、园艺爱好者、专业园丁、植物学家、花园建筑师、睡莲育种者以及对水园艺感兴趣的人士共同组成的专业协会。协会成员不仅遍布德国各地，还延伸至丹麦、荷兰、奥地利、瑞士和匈牙利等国家。GDW致力于推动水生和沼泽植物的研究、栽培与应用，传播水园艺文化。

The German Water Garden Enthusiasts Association (Gesellschaft der Wassergartenfreunde, GDW) was founded in 1993 as a professional society bringing together pond owners, gardening enthusiasts, professional gardeners, botanists, landscape architects, water lily breeders, and anyone interested in water gardening. The association’s membership extends beyond Germany to Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, and Hungary. GDW is dedicated to promoting the research, cultivation, and application of aquatic and bog plants, as well as spreading water gardening culture.
About the Association
As Germany’s most prominent water gardening association, GDW provides members and the public with extensive information resources and networking opportunities. The association organizes an annual general conference featuring lectures by experts in aquatic plants, covering core topics such as the cultivation, application, and maintenance of aquatic and bog plants. The association also arranges visits to parks with water features and ponds, allowing members to gain on-site insights into water gardening design and management practices.
Annual Plant Selection
Each year, GDW selects one water lily and one pond plant as “Plant of the Year” (Pflanze des Jahres), aiming to raise public awareness of aquatic plant diversity and promote variety conservation and knowledge dissemination in the water gardening field. This selection has become an important tradition in the German water gardening community.
Publications
The association publishes the professional quarterly journal “Midori – Das Garten-Teich-Magazin,” covering water plant cultivation guides, pond design case studies, association event reports, and water gardening industry news—serving as essential reading for German water gardening enthusiasts.
