WSNLA Washington State Nursery Landscape Association

Association History & Membership Base

The Washington State Nursery & Landscape Association traces its roots to the late 1930s, when the Washington State Nursery Association began coordinating industry activity among growers and allied trades. Over subsequent decades the scope expanded to include professional horticulture training, plant and landscape advocacy, and sustainable landscape practices across the Pacific Northwest.

Mission & Member Categories

Its mission centers on advocacy, education, and promotion: protecting and growing the success of its members while raising public awareness of the cultural, environmental, and economic value of plants and designed landscapes throughout Washington State.

Industry Certification Programs

Two industry certifications anchor the association’s professional development work. The Certified Professional Horticulturist (CPH) program validates foundational plant knowledge for working horticulturists. The ecoPRO Sustainable Landscape Professional certification, jointly administered with the Washington Association of Landscape Professionals, recognizes advanced competency in sustainable landscape design and management.

Publications & Public Education

The association publishes the monthly B&B magazine for members and distributes ongoing industry updates through eNEWS, social channels, and the official website. Public-facing programs such as Plant Something and Be Heat Smart translate horticultural research into consumer messaging about the role of plants in healthy, livable communities.

Scholarship & Charitable Fund

A dedicated scholarship and charitable fund supports student research in horticulture and allied fields, while member-led volunteer programs extend the association’s reach into community greening, urban canopy, and water-quality initiatives across the region.
