历史沿革

北京林业大学办学历史可追溯至 1902 年的京师大学堂农业科林学目,1952 年全国高校院系调整时由北京农业大学森林系与河北农学院森林系合并成立北京林学院。1960 年被列为全国重点高等院校,1985 年更名为北京林业大学。1996 年入选首批”211 工程”重点建设高校,2000 年划归教育部直属管理并获批设立研究生院,2008 年成为国家”优势学科创新平台”建设项目试点高校,2017 年首批进入国家”双一流”建设高校行列,林学和风景园林学两个学科入选”双一流”建设学科名单,2022 年再次入选第二轮”双一流”建设高校名单。

学科体系与特色

学校以林学、生物学、林业工程学为特色,形成农、理、工、管、经、文、法、哲相结合的多科性协调发展格局。林学院是学校历史最久、师资最强、培养人才最多的传统优势学院,七十多年来为国家培养了近万名林业科技人才。园林学院风景园林学在 2012 年教育部学科评估中位列全国第一,2016 年评估中获得 A+,2017 年进入国家”世界一流学科建设”行列。水土保持学院是 1992 年成立的我国第一个水土保持学院,也是世界唯一的水土保持学院。学校同时设有经济管理学院、材料科学与技术学院、生物科学与技术学院、工学院、信息学院(人工智能学院)、生态与自然保护学院、环境科学与工程学院、草业与草原学院、人文社会科学学院、理学院、外语学院等院部,覆盖从森林培育到生态修复、从园林规划到人工智能的多学科体系。

师资人才

学校构建以两院院士为代表的高水平师资队伍,从林学院走出了以沈国舫、张新时、李文华、朱之悌、王涛、徐冠华、唐守正、尹伟伦、方精云、张守攻 10 位两院院士为代表的一批具有国际影响力的专家学者。水土保持学院拥有国家级突出贡献中青年专家 3 人、省部级突出贡献中青年专家 2 人、国家”百千万人才工程”第一、二层次入选 2 人、中国青年科技奖 3 人、全国优秀教师奖 1 人。经济管理学院在校学生总数逾 3,300 余人,是学校学科、专业、学生人数最多的学院;材料科学与技术学院在校本科生 1,050 人、硕士研究生 251 人、博士研究生 78 人。学校坚持立德树人根本任务,形成”知山知水,树木树人”的办学理念,积极投身林业高等教育和生态文明建设伟大实践。

科研与社会服务

学校构建了全方位服务生态文明建设的科技创新平台体系,形成了包括国家花卉工程技术研究中心、林木育种与生态修复国家工程研究中心、山西吉县森林生态系统国家野外科学观测研究站等 114 个国家级、省部级科技平台和 80 余个校级平台。学校主办的《森林生态系统》(Forest Ecosystems)入选英文领军期刊,《鸟类学研究》(Avian Research)入选英文梯队期刊,并在《细胞》《自然》《科学》发表论文破解油松遗传密码、研究中美草原生态系统干旱敏感性、揭示干旱对陆地生态系统的影响机制。建校以来学校获国家科技奖励 58 项、省部级科技奖励 355 余项,”十四五”以来承担习近平生态文明思想研究重大专项 1 项、国家自然科学基金项目 471 项、国家重点研发计划项目 34 项,获批国家良种 5 个、省级良种 17 个、植物新品种 266 个,参与制定国家标准 73 个,申请发明专利 1,187 件。

校园文化与战略布局

学校获批成为首批国家生态文明教育基地,承建全国青少年生态文明教育中心,发起成立习近平生态文明思想高校学习研究联盟与高校研究生”生态文明”宣讲联盟,创建首个”全国高校生态文明网”,获批全国高校唯一国家级非物质文化遗产项目”传统插花”。师生原创话剧《梁希》弘扬梁希科教报国精神,原创生态舞蹈剧《共生》讲好服务生态文明建设故事,绿色长征、生态文明博士生讲师团等品牌活动享誉全国。2021 年学校获批雄安校区,成为首批入驻雄安的高校;2023 年获教育部、国家林业和草原局、北京市人民政府三方共建支持,明确”建成服务生态文明建设的世界一流大学”办学目标;2024 年雄安校区开工建设,加快构建”一校两区一园”新发展格局。


Historical Evolution

Beijing Forestry University traces its origins to the forestry discipline of the Agricultural Department of the Imperial University of Peking (Jingshi Daxuetang) established in 1902. In 1952, during the national restructuring of colleges and departments, the Forestry Department of Beijing Agricultural University merged with the Forestry Department of Hebei Agricultural College to form Beijing Forestry College. In 1960 the school was designated a national key institution of higher education. In 1985 it was renamed Beijing Forestry University. In 1996 it was admitted to the first cohort of the national Project 211, in 2000 it was placed under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, and in 2008 it became a pilot institution of the national Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform. In 2017 it was listed in the first round of the national Double First-Class Initiative with both Forestry and Landscape Architecture designated as Double First-Class disciplines, and in 2022 it was again included in the second round of the initiative.

Discipline System and Features

The university features forestry, biology, and forestry engineering as its signature disciplines and has developed into a multi-disciplinary institution integrating agriculture, science, engineering, management, economics, liberal arts, law, and philosophy. The School of Forestry is the most established, best-staffed, and most productive traditional school, training nearly 10,000 forestry science and technology talents for the country over more than seven decades. The School of Landscape Architecture was ranked first in the national discipline evaluation of landscape architecture conducted by the Ministry of Education in 2012 and achieved the highest A+ rating in 2016, before being admitted to the national World First-Class Discipline initiative in 2017. The School of Soil and Water Conservation, established in 1992, is the first and the only school of soil and water conservation in the world. The university also includes the School of Economics and Management, the School of Materials Science and Technology, the School of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, the School of Engineering, the School of Information (School of Artificial Intelligence), the School of Ecology and Nature Conservation, the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, the School of Grassland Science, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Science, and the School of Foreign Languages, covering the full chain from forest cultivation and ecological restoration to landscape planning and artificial intelligence.

Faculty and Talent

The university has assembled a high-caliber faculty team represented by academicians of the two national academies, with ten internationally influential experts including Shen Guofang, Zhang Xinshi, Li Wenhua, Zhu Zhiti, Wang Tao, Xu Guanhua, Tang Shouzheng, Yin Weilun, Fang Jingyun, and Zhang Shougong emerging from the School of Forestry. The School of Soil and Water Conservation holds three national-level experts with outstanding contributions in middle and young age groups, two provincial- and ministerial-level experts, two first- and second-tier candidates of the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten-thousand Talents Project, three China Young Scientist Award recipients, and one national outstanding teacher. The School of Economics and Management has more than 3,300 enrolled students and is the largest school of the university by disciplines, majors, and student numbers. The School of Materials Science and Technology enrolls 1,050 undergraduates, 251 master’s students, and 78 doctoral students. The university upholds the educational philosophy of understanding mountains and waters, cultivating trees and people, and actively engages in higher forestry education and the great practice of ecological civilization construction.

Research and Social Services

The university has built an all-round science and technology innovation platform system that serves ecological civilization construction, including 114 national and provincial-ministerial-level platforms such as the National Engineering Research Center for Floriculture, the National Engineering Research Center for Forest Tree Breeding and Ecological Restoration, and the Shanxi Jixian National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Forest Ecosystems, together with more than 80 university-level platforms. The journal Forest Ecosystems hosted by the university is a leading English-language journal and Avian Research is a tier English-language journal. The university has published in Cell to decode the genetic code of Chinese pine, in Nature to investigate the drought sensitivity of grassland ecosystems in China and the United States, and in Science to reveal the mechanisms by which drought affects terrestrial ecosystems. Since its establishment the university has received 58 national science and technology awards and more than 355 provincial- and ministerial-level awards. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period it has undertaken one major special program on Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, 471 National Natural Science Foundation projects, and 34 national key research and development projects, obtained 5 national improved varieties, 17 provincial improved varieties, 266 plant new variety rights, participated in the formulation of 73 national standards, and applied for 1,187 invention patents.

Campus Culture and Strategic Layout

The university has been approved as one of the first national ecological civilization education bases and hosts the National Youth Ecological Civilization Education Center. It initiated the Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization Universities Learning and Research Alliance and the Universities Graduate Ecological Civilization Lecture Alliance, established the first National Universities Ecological Civilization Website in China, and obtained the only national-level intangible cultural heritage project of traditional Chinese flower arrangement in the higher education sector. Faculty and students have created the original drama Liangxi to commemorate Liangxi’s spirit of serving the country through science and education, and the original ecological dance drama Symbiosis to tell the stories of serving ecological civilization construction. Long-distance Green March and Ecological Civilization Doctoral Lecturer Group campaigns have become renowned across the country. In 2021 the university was approved to build the Xiongan Campus and became one of the first universities to enter Xiongan. In 2023 it obtained tripartite co-construction support from the Ministry of Education, the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government, defining the strategic goal of building a world-class university serving ecological civilization construction. In 2024 the Xiongan Campus commenced construction, accelerating the new development pattern of one university, two campuses, and one park.
