历史沿革
南京林业大学前身为 1902 年创立的三江师范学堂（南京大学前身）与 1910 年建立的金陵大学堂，1952 年全国高校院系调整时以南京大学森林系（原国立中央大学森林系）和金陵大学森林系为主体合并成立南京林学院，是新中国首批独立设置的三所原林业部直属重点高等林业院校之一。1955 年华中农学院林学系（武汉大学、南昌大学和湖北农学院森林系合并组成）并入，1972 年更名为南京林产工业学院，1983 年恢复南京林学院名称，1985 年更名为南京林业大学。2017 年入选国家”双一流”建设高校名单。
学科与学院
学校是一所以林科为优势，以服务国家生态文明建设为引领，理、工、农、文、管、经、法、艺等多学科协调发展的高水平研究型大学。现有林草学院、水土保持学院、材料科学与工程学院、化学工程学院、机械电子工程学院、土木工程学院、经济管理学院、人文社会科学学院、生态文明传播学院、信息科学技术学院、人工智能学院、风景园林学院、理学院、外国语学院、艺术设计学院、家居与工业设计学院、轻工与食品学院、汽车与交通工程学院、生态与环境学院、马克思主义学院、生命科学学院、继续教育学院（应用技术学院）、国际教育学院、智林国际学院、体育美育部等 25 个学院（部）。在第四轮学科评估中，林业工程、林学获评 A+，风景园林学获评 A-。工程学、化学、农业科学、植物与动物科学等 4 个学科进入 ESI 全球机构排名前 1‰。
师资与人才
学校现有专任教师 2030 人，其中博士生导师 356 人，具有高级职称人员 1163 人，中国工程院院士 2 名，发达国家工程院院士 1 名，其他国家级人才 38 人，享受国务院政府特殊津贴专家 14 人，全国黄大年式教师团队 4 个，国家级教学名师 2 人。先后培养了包括 10 位院士在内的近 30 万名优秀人才。人才培养涵盖本科生教育、研究生教育、留学生教育、继续教育及干部培训等各层次，共有全日制在校学生 4 万余人。
科研与社会服务
十四五期间，学校获批国家重点研发计划项目 10 项、课题 34 项，国家生物育种重大科技专项项目 1 项，国家自然科学基金重点项目 2 项，国家社科基金重大项目 3 项、重点项目 3 项；审（认）定国家、省部级良种 40 个，获国家级植物新品种权 79 个，制/修订国际/国家标准 62 项，授权发明专利 2987 项。学校先后获国家级科技奖励 64 项、省部级科技奖励 400 余项，其中国家科技进步一等奖 2 项。建有林木遗传育种全国重点实验室、森林食物资源挖掘与利用全国重点实验室、林木生物质低碳高效利用国家工程研究中心等国家级创新平台 6 个。
国际交流与校园文化
学校坚持国际化发展战略，是中国政府奖学金来华留学生接收院校，首批通过全国高等学校来华留学质量认证的高校，与 20 多个国家或地区百余所世界一流大学、科研机构建立了长期合作关系，与马来西亚国立大学共建智林国际学院，每年接收 600 余名外国留学生来校攻读学位或进修学习。学校坚持多校区融合发展，拥有南京新庄校区、白马校区和淮安校区，总面积 1 万余亩。校训诚朴雄伟、树木树人，先后培育形成红绿相融特色校园文化，致力于建设林科特色鲜明的世界高水平大学。
Historical Evolution
Nanjing Forestry University traces its origins to the Sanjiang Normal School founded in 1902 and Jinling University established in 1910. In 1952, during the nationwide restructuring of higher education, the Forest Department of Nanjing University (formerly the Forest Department of National Central University) and the Forest Department of Jinling University merged to form Nanjing Forestry College, one of the three original key forestry institutions directly administered by the Ministry of Forestry. The Forest Department of Huazhong Agricultural College was incorporated in 1955. The institution was renamed Nanjing Forest Products Industry College in 1972, reverted to Nanjing Forestry College in 1983, and finally took its current name in 1985. It was selected for the national Double First-Class Universities initiative in 2017.
Disciplines and Colleges
The university is a high-level research-oriented institution with forestry as its distinctive strength, oriented toward serving the national ecological civilization strategy, and characterised by the coordinated development of science, engineering, agriculture, liberal arts, management, economics, law, and the arts. It comprises 25 colleges and academic divisions covering forest and grassland, soil and water conservation, materials science and engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical and electronic engineering, civil engineering, economics and management, humanities and social sciences, ecological civilization communication, information science and technology, artificial intelligence, landscape architecture, science, foreign languages, art and design, home and industrial design, light industry and food, automotive and transportation engineering, ecology and environment, Marxism, life sciences, continuing education, international education, the Zhilin International College, and the physical education and aesthetics division. In the fourth round of discipline evaluation, Forestry Engineering and Forestry received A+ grades and Landscape Architecture received A-. Four disciplines including Engineering, Chemistry, Agricultural Sciences, and Plant and Animal Science are ranked in the top 1 per cent globally in ESI.
Faculty and Talent
The university has 2,030 full-time faculty members, including 356 doctoral supervisors, 1,163 staff with senior professional titles, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 academician of a developed-country engineering academy, 38 other national-level talents, 14 State Council special allowance experts, 4 national Huang Danian-style teacher teams, and 2 national teaching masters. It has produced nearly 300,000 outstanding graduates including 10 academicians. Talent development spans undergraduate, postgraduate, international student, continuing education, and cadre training programmes, with more than 40,000 full-time students currently enrolled.
Research and Social Services
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the university secured 10 national key research and development projects, 34 sub-projects, 1 national biological breeding mega science and technology project, 2 key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and 3 major and 3 key projects of the National Social Science Fund. It approved or recognised 40 national and provincial-level improved varieties, obtained 79 national plant variety rights, formulated or revised 62 international or national standards, and was granted 2,987 invention patents. The university has received 64 national science and technology awards and more than 400 provincial and ministerial awards, including 2 first prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. It hosts 6 national-level innovation platforms including the National Key Laboratory for Forest Tree Genetics and Breeding and the National Engineering Research Center for Low-carbon Efficient Utilisation of Forest Biomass Materials.
International Exchange and Campus Culture
The university pursues an international development strategy and is a designated Chinese government scholarship institution for international students in China. It was among the first batch to pass the quality certification for receiving international students in higher education and has established long-term academic and talent-training cooperation with more than 100 first-class universities and research institutions across over 20 countries and regions. Together with the National University of Malaysia it co-established the Zhilin International College and hosts more than 600 international students each year for degree and visiting programmes. The university operates across three campuses – Xinzhuang, Baima, and Huai’an – with a combined area of more than 10,000 mu. Guided by the motto Sincere, Simple, Grand and Great, Planting Trees and Cultivating People, the university has cultivated a distinctive red and green campus culture and is committed to building a world-class forestry-oriented university.
