创始人迈克尔·莱文（Michael Levin）于1982年创立苗圃，秉持”专注精品树木”理念，逐步退出大众市场，转向培育高品质盆景。园区内户外盆景花园与温室中，既有百年树龄的珍稀观赏盆景，也有适合初学者入门的素材树，并配有陶盆、工具、土壤、肥料及配件一站式采购服务。
盆景种类
园区盆景分为耐寒树种与热带树种两大类。耐寒树种涵盖日本枫、中华朴树、松柏类和刺柏类等传统品种；热带树种则由专业温室培育，专为室内环境优化。另有专业花盆馆，汇集来自全球的釉面陶盆、哑光陶盆和云母盆，包括美国本土匠人作品。
专业服务
Bonsai West提供全方位盆景托养、修剪造型、换盆修根及医疗疗养服务，并设有盆景医院/水疗中心，为树木提供专业化护理。顾客可随时携带树木前往检查，中心会根据季节推荐最佳护理方案。
盆景学校
盆景学校（School of Bonsai West）由迈克尔·莱文与祖马·弗莱施曼（Zuma Fleischmann）共同主持，开设一年制大师课程，系统传授盆景的园艺技术与设计理论。短期课程涵盖入门体验课、专题研讨会（如松柏类、枫树类、丛林式、悬崖式等），以及嫁接板、嫁接技术、换盆修根等专业工作坊，适合从初学者到资深收藏家的各层次需求。

Founded in 1982 by Michael Levin, Bonsai West is a full-service bonsai nursery, retail center, and gallery nestled on a 250-year-old 2-acre farm at 100 Great Road, Littleton, MA. The nursery has evolved from a mass-market operation into a premier destination specializing in high-quality specimen bonsai, with five greenhouses and an outdoor garden gallery open year-round.
Nursery Overview
Michael Levin began selling bonsai door-to-door across New England in the late 1970s, gradually shifting away from the growing “mallsai” wholesale trade. After reinventing the business in 2002 following his father’s passing, Levin committed exclusively to quality trees and high-quality customer experience. The nursery offers an extensive inventory of pre-bonsai stock plants, pottery, tools, books, soil, fertilizers, and accessories.
Bonsai Species
The collection spans cold hardy trees—including Japanese maples, Chinese elms, pines, and junipers—and tropical species cultivated in greenhouses for indoor environments. A dedicated Pottery House features glazed and unglazed pots, terra cotta and mica options, and work by American artisans alongside international pieces. Basic tools such as scissors, shears, concave cutters, wire cutters, and root rakes are also available.
Services
Services include tree sitting and boarding, pruning and styling, repotting and root pruning, and a hospital/spa for trees requiring intensive care. The nursery encourages customers to bring trees in for check-ups and offers seasonal guidance on appropriate care practices.
School of Bonsai West
Taught by Michael Levin and Zuma Fleischmann, the School of Bonsai West is a specialized 12-month Masterclass program dedicated to deepening the craft and art of bonsai using the nursery’s collection and students’ own trees. Short-term classes range from three-hour Introduction to Bonsai sessions to specialized workshops on pines, maples, indoor bonsai, forest-planting, cascading styles, slab planting, wiring techniques, and repotting. Lecture/demos are also offered free of charge throughout the year.
Specimen Collection
Bonsai West features one of the largest collections of historically important specimen bonsai outside of Japan, with trees ranging from specimens over a hundred years old to young trees created by American and international artists. The outdoor garden/gallery and greenhouses are open year-round, and the nursery hosts Open Houses, free lecture/demos, sales, and garden tours throughout the year.
