创办人与教学团队
创办人 John Hanby 自二十世纪七十年代起接触盆景艺术, 八十年代受 Peter Chan 著作启发, 此后一直活跃于英国盆景教学与创作领域。John Hanby 曾出版盆景专著, 并长期为初学者与进阶爱好者授课, 在英国盆景界拥有较高声誉。学校目前由 John Hanby 亲自主持日常授课与小班辅导, 学员可直接获得一对一的树木养护与造型建议。
课程体系
学校课程按学习深度与时间安排分为多个层级, 包括周末与工作日开放工作坊、特定树种专题班与一对一私人辅导。课程每月滚动开班, 周三与周六班每期限六人, 周日班每期限五人, 确保每位学员的树木都能得到充分关注。全日课程学费为英镑四十元, 预约时需缴纳五英镑定金, 定金不可转让或退还, 校方若取消课程则提供改期或退款。
树木与工具配套
学校常年供应盆景栽培所需的基质、肥料与基础工具, 学员可通过安全的在线商店或现场购买, 亦可选购礼品券。树木与花盆不定期到货, 一旦有货将通过网站公布并开放现场挑选。同时学校面向学员与公众提供树木代维护与上门修剪服务, 学员亦可请 John Hanby 前往自己家中或工作坊开展专题辅导。

School History
The John Hanby Bonsai School is located near Barnsley in South Yorkshire, with easy access to the UK motorway network. Founded by internationally respected bonsai artist, author and teacher John Hanby, the school has delivered intimate, small-group bonsai tuition for more than twenty-five years. Its fully carpeted classroom with abundant natural lighting provides a relaxed, focused setting for hands-on learning at every level.
Founder and Teaching Team
John Hanby first encountered bonsai in the 1970s and was inspired in the 1980s by Peter Chan’s writing to pursue the art professionally. He has since authored a book on bonsai and built a long teaching career working with beginners and advanced enthusiasts. At the school he leads the regular classes and private workshops himself, giving every student direct access to his guidance on care, refinement and styling.
Course System
The school runs open workshops on weekends and midweek days, species-specific classes and one-to-one tuition each month. Class sizes are capped at six on Wednesdays and Saturdays and at five on Sundays so that every tree receives the attention it needs. The full-day class fee is £40, with a non-transferable £5 deposit required to secure a place; if a class is changed or cancelled by the school an alternative date or refund is offered.
Trees, Tools and Supplies
An ongoing stock of compost, fertiliser and essential tools supports students year-round and is available through the secure online shop along with gift vouchers. Trees and pots are released periodically and announced on the website for viewing and collection. The school also offers private maintenance visits, in-home workshops and ongoing aftercare for trees belonging to students and outside clients.
