协会每年的常规活动包括一次面向全员的Generalversammlung(会员大会)、各区轮流举办的Höck(开放花园日,同好聚在某位成员家中赏花喝咖啡)、一次多日的境外Reise(往年在德国柏林、法国阿尔萨斯、英国伦敦切尔西花展等地方串门),以及每年一次的Pflanzenraritäten-Markt(稀有植物市集)摆摊。

Association Profile

The Schweizerischer Fuchsienverein (Swiss Fuchsia Society, abbreviated SFV) is the national interest group for fuchsia enthusiasts across Switzerland. It was founded in the early 1980s, a date that the named cultivar “25 Jahre Schweizerischer Fuchsienverein” (registered by Swiss breeder Vreni Flückiger in 2007) makes it possible to date with reasonable precision. The association adopted its current website design in February 2018. Its periodical, “Postillion,” has appeared continuously under editor Annette Humbel ever since.

Aims and Organisation

The society exists to bring together people who care about fuchsias, exchange cultivation experience, and preserve, propagate, and pass on Swiss-bred cultivars. At the national level it operates through one central body, the SFV. Beneath it sit two regional groups — “Mittelland” (the central plateau) and “Ostschweiz” (eastern Switzerland) — and every member automatically belongs to whichever regional group covers them. The current president is Beatrice Schnider, who also serves as treasurer and chair of the eastern regional group. The periodical Postillion is edited by Annette Humbel, and Sylvia Bieri is the contact person for the Mittelland region.

Events and Gatherings

Each year the SFV organises a single national Generalversammlung (annual general meeting), a sequence of regional Höck garden days hosted in members’ gardens (where visitors admire fuchsias over coffee and cake), one multi-day Reise abroad (recent destinations have included Lake Constance’s Mainau Island, Germany’s Berlin, France’s Alsace, and London for the Chelsea Flower Show), and a stand at the annual Pflanzenraritäten-Markt in St. Urban and similar fairs. The two regional groups each add a seasonal day excursion to a special nursery or garden, plus the open-garden programme that runs through the warm months by prior phone arrangement.

Membership and Benefits

Annual dues are CHF 45 for adults and CHF 20 for youths and family members. New members receive three booklets: the society’s 25th-anniversary publication “Schweizer Fuchsien,” Dutch fuchsia veteran Aat van Wijk’s “Leben mit Fuchsien,” and a current book, slide, and video lending catalogue together with the statutes. The society also maintains a lending library of fuchsia books, slides, and videos for members’ use at home, and continues to dispatch Postillion and Berichte updates through the year.

Links with Other Fuchsia Organisations

The SFV is part of the wider European fuchsia network and maintains regular contact with: Germany’s “Deutsche Fuchsien-Gesellschaft” (DFG), whose annual gallery includes the SFV 25th-anniversary cultivar with full documentation; the Dutch “Nederlandse Kring van Fuchsiavrienden“; Switzerland’s perennial-plant society “Gesellschaft Schweizer Staudenfreunde” (GSS), specifically its “Fachgruppe Fuchsien” (fuchsia specialist group); the “Botanischer Garten St. Gallen“; and the German “Bonsaiarbeitskreis Hildesheim.” On the practical side, the SFV also recommends two specialist fuchsia nurseries via its Links page: Gärtnerei Homatt in Ruswil and Rosi Friedl Fuchsien-Gärtnerei in Markt Indersdorf — useful for members looking for sturdy young plants.
