公司由 Bruns 家族延续经营:第二代 Johann(1876-1957)、第三代 Erich 与 Wilhelm Bruns、第四代 Jan-Dieter Bruns(生于 1952 年,1977 年加入公司)以及第五代 Jan-Gerd Bruns(生于 1990 年,2018 年 9 月入职)相继负责日常经营。

History

Bruns Pflanzen-Export GmbH & Co. KG is based in Bad Zwischenahn in the Ammerland region of Lower Saxony, Germany. The nursery was founded in 1876 by the gardener Diedrich-Gerhard Bruns at the age of only 23, starting from a small assortment of plants. His son Johann (1876-1957) and grandsons Erich and Wilhelm rebuilt the business from the post-war ruins, with up to 100 seasonal workers employed at the nursery during Wilhelm’s time. After the Second World War, Erich and Wilhelm restarted operations in 1946 with 70 employees and shifted their focus beyond Germany, so that Bruns became a byword for German export nursery stock across Europe in the 1960s and 1970s.

Family Continuity

The company has remained in the Bruns family across five generations: second-generation Johann, third-generation Erich and Wilhelm Bruns, fourth-generation Jan-Dieter Bruns (born 1952, joined in 1977) and fifth-generation Jan-Gerd Bruns (born 1990, joined in September 2018). After Erich Bruns died in 1989 his daughter Gisela Conrad (1930-2016) became a partner; by 2007 the workforce had grown to around 350 staff cultivating more than 4,000 plant species and varieties on an area of over 500 hectares.

Rhododendrons and the Gristede Park

From 1950 Wilhelm Bruns devoted himself to rhododendron breeding and developed the later patented Gristeder Neuheiten® brand, while he and his brother planted valuable rhododendrons in the Gristede forest. The collection grew into the 25-hectare Gristede Rhododendron Park with more than 1,000 rhododendron species and varieties as well as outdoor azaleas, all freely accessible to the public year-round and maintained by Bruns staff. Since 1985 the Federal Presidents and their wives have traditionally named a new rhododendron cultivar after them, and every new Bruns variety can be admired in the park.

Product Range

Bruns runs a workforce of around 350 on more than 600 hectares of production land in Bad Zwischenahn, cultivating deciduous and coniferous shrubs, avenue trees, mature specimen trees up to 50 years old, shaped topiary and a wide rhododendron assortment. The container area covers more than 30 hectares, offering SpringRing® and XXL container woody plants together with the Masterpiece Collection by Johann Bruns®. The Living Art® line showcases specimen woody plants grown for individual character, while INKARHO® rhododendrons and Bloombux® are marketed as lime-tolerant cultivars for gardens and public landscapes.

International Projects and Consulting

Drawing on more than 140 years of nursery experience, Bruns supplies trees, shrubs and rhododendrons for city squares, parks, residential and commercial greening projects across Europe, and also offers consultancy for nursery development in the Middle East, Kazakhstan, China and Georgia. Local staff have been trained in modern nursery techniques at Bad Zwischenahn and at project sites, including a collaboration with ADA in Riyadh and a small nursery plan in Kazakhstan, with plants marketed from a Georgian distribution point.
