Eden Magazine
Founded in 1994 as a quarterly on gardens, flowers and landscaping
Eden Magazine is a Belgian-based horticulture magazine launched in 1994, published three times a year in both Dutch and French. Its Dutch edition was originally positioned as a journal of garden inspiration and garden design; with the addition of a parallel French edition and broader newsstand distribution it gradually became a shared fixture among hobby gardeners in Western Europe. The magazine still keeps the three-per-year cadence, with each issue running roughly 112 pages of text and photography and arriving in the run-up to the next horticultural season.
Three issues a year, distributed across four European countries
The magazine is sold through major supermarkets, kiosks, bookshops and magazine chains in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France, with the readership made up primarily of private gardeners but also of a meaningful share of professional gardeners. An annual subscription of three issues sits in the mid-tier of European horticulture titles, individual issues are available through the newsstand, and a free digital preview is offered for every new issue so readers can browse before committing.
Editorial scope: plants, garden design and garden travel
Around the core subject of horticulture, each issue devotes substantial space to flower varieties, annuals and biennials, bulbs, ornamental grasses, vegetables and small fruit, trees and shrubs, as well as garden and landscape architecture case studies. Recurring sections cover garden decoration, garden travel, garden literature and garden events. The garden travel strand is one of the magazine’s most recognisable features, with editorial visits that have included hidden gardens in Japan, the Tom Stuart-Smith naturalistic borders at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Garden Wisley, and the Octavia Hill tribute garden designed by Ann-Marie Powell for the Chelsea Flower Show.
From De Tuinen van Eden to the unified Eden Magazine title
Until 2016 the Dutch edition was published under the title De Tuinen van Eden, with the French sister edition titled Les Jardins d’Eden, the two running practically identical content for their respective language audiences. From 2016 onward the magazine unified under the title Eden Magazine, with the French edition also adopting the same name. The Dutch edition remains the lead version and the French edition continues as a sister publication, a bilingual dual-title arrangement that has been kept to the present day.
Readers, subscription model and seasonal release cadence
The readership spans beginners through experienced head gardeners, with long-term subscribers regularly quoted in the magazine’s own reader-feedback pages. The subscription office serves the wider continental European market from Belgium, where readers can subscribe, renew, purchase gift vouchers or order back issues directly through the official site. Following a seasonal cadence, the winter issue is released in late autumn, the spring-summer issue in early spring, and the autumn issue before midsummer, each one lining up with the planting, growing and harvest windows of the European garden year.
