协会概况

新西兰皇家园艺协会（Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture，简称 RNZIH）是一个有着上百年历史的全国性园艺组织，1923 年 7 月 18 日在新西兰以法人社团身份注册成立，1939 年获颁皇家特许状，正式使用「Royal」冠名，会员约 300 人。协会的使命是「在新西兰鼓励和改善园艺，促进对植物的理解、欣赏、保护和利用」，这一表述延续至今未有改动。

主要工作与项目

协会常年维护《新西兰园艺杂志》（New Zealand Garden Journal），刊内发表植物专题文章、园艺图书评介和行业人物的纪念文；并与多个下属信托合作，分别负责植物保护、花园评定与园艺教育推广。新西兰杰出树木信托（NZNTT）自 1977 年起对具有显著历史、生态或景观价值的树木进行登记，新西兰花园信托（NZGT）自 2003 年起对新西兰境内值得参观的花园进行评定与推介。

历史沿革与法定资质

协会在 1927 年通过《新西兰园艺学会法案》，获政府授权颁发园艺证书与文凭，鼎盛时期的国家园艺文凭（NDH）影响了整整一代新西兰园艺师，1994 年政府成立行业培训机构之后，文凭颁授停止。1939 年皇家特许状的授予标志着协会得到王室层面的正式认可，至今其赞助人由新西兰总督担任。

教育推广与对外合作

RNZIH 新西兰教育信托自 2004 年起运作，组织年度青年园艺师竞赛（Young Horticulturist of the Year），并与各地园艺俱乐部、苗圃和植物园保持紧密联系。协会定期举办公开讲座（其中最具影响力的是为纪念英国植物学家约瑟夫·班克斯爵士而设立的「班克斯讲座」），还负责向议会和政府就园艺相关议题提交专业意见。

About the Institute

The Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture (RNZIH) is a national horticultural body with a long pedigree. It was incorporated on 18 July 1923 and granted a Royal Charter in 1939, when the present name was adopted. Membership sits at around 300 people drawn from professional horticulturists, garden historians and home gardeners across New Zealand. Its mission — to encourage and improve horticulture in New Zealand by promoting the understanding, appreciation, conservation and use of plants — has not changed in the century since it was first written down.

Programmes and Publications

The Institute publishes the New Zealand Garden Journal, a long-running periodical carrying plant profiles, book reviews and obituaries, and it supports a series of affiliated trusts. The NZ Notable Trees Trust (NZNTT) has been registering trees of historical, ecological or landscape significance since 1977. The NZ Gardens Trust (NZGT), founded in 2003, maintains a national register of gardens worth visiting. Together these trusts give the Institute a presence across conservation, garden assessment and public education.

Charter, Qualifications and Heritage

In 1927 Parliament passed the NZ Institute of Horticulture Act, which gave the Institute statutory authority to award Certificates and Diplomas in Horticulture. The National Diploma in Horticulture (NDH) remained the country’s benchmark vocational qualification for generations of horticulturists until government reforms in 1994 transferred training to industry bodies. The 1939 Royal Charter remains the formal basis of the Institute’s standing today, and the Governor-General of New Zealand serves as its Patron.

Education and Public Engagement

The RNZIH Education Trust, established in 2004, runs the Young Horticulturist of the Year competition and works alongside clubs, nurseries and botanic gardens throughout the country. The Institute’s flagship public lecture — the Banks Lecture, named after Sir Joseph Banks — has been held most years since 1926. The Institute also submits evidence and comment to Parliament and government agencies on matters that affect horticulture in New Zealand.

Resources for Gardeners

For the general public the Institute’s website offers free plant profiles, garden Q&A, nursery catalogues, cultivar registers, poisonous-plant notices and a New Zealand plant reference. Members receive printed copies of the journal and newsletter and are invited to the Institute’s annual conference and regional seminars.
