历史沿革
挪威 Rogaland 植物园位于挪威西南部 Rogaland 郡 Sandnes 市,1972 年由 Bjørn A. Stangebye 发起,作为私立非营利基金会成立,获得 Rogaland 郡以及 Gjesdal、Hå、Klepp、Randaberg、Sandnes、Sola、Stavanger、Time 八个市镇的资助。建立契机是 1970 年的 Melsheia 大火,这场火灾烧毁了约 6000 decare 林地,推动了植物园作为植物迁地保护与科普基地的落地。早期建设中,苗圃业主 Arne F. 园区与位置
植物园占地约 700 decare(约 70 公顷),主入口位于 Sandnes 市 Espelandveien 240 号,沿 E39 公路在 Figgjo 与 Sandnes 之间 Bråsteinvatnet 湖畔设有指示牌。从 E39 沿 Sviland 方向出口驶出后再行驶约 2 公里,植物园位于道路左侧,园内停车场可容纳较多车辆。园区步行路径网络由 Sigurd Aarsland(2000 至 2006 年任植物园董事会主席)主持修筑,包括 Skittjørn 湖周围的 Sigurd Aarsland 小径(含 Kanalstien)、Øvre dam 北侧的 Kjærlighetsstien(情路),以及穿过樱花种植区的 Vårstien(春径)。2010 年园区向北扩展约 113 decare,与 Melshei 步道网相连。
植物收藏与分区
植物园在栽培的物种与栽培品种约 1400 个,分区按公园/花园主题(如秋色区)、植物系统分类(如山毛榉区)、地理来源(如南半球区)三种逻辑组合布置。除常见乔灌木外,园内重点收集樱花(prydkirsebær / Prunus)、杜鹃(rhododendron)、金缕梅(trollhassel / Hamamelis)、玉兰(magnolia)、红豆杉(barlind / Taxus)、枫树、椴树(lind / Tilia)、七叶树(hestekastanje / Aesculus)以及活化石属群,如水杉(urtidstre / Metasequoia)、日本金松(skjermtre / Sciadopitys)、梣(ask / Fraxinus)、荚蒾(krossved / Viburnum)和杨属(poppel / Populus)植物。2002 年以来,新引入的植物区包括花楸(Sorbus)、杜鹃、木兰、金缕梅与樱花等。
科普任务与访客中心
植物园官方将自身任务归纳为四个方面:研究、自然管理、学习与体验。园方通过 Arboretguiden 数字导览系统、季节性活动与志愿者讲解向公众展示树木与植物多样性,并配合气候变化、生物多样性等议题开展公众教育。访客中心 Arborethus 设有现代化洗手间与咖啡厅,周三 11 至 13 时、周日 11 至 16 时营业,为徒步参观者提供补给。
近年建设与支持
2024 年植物园新建的科普与展览馆(亦称 Arborethus)落成,并于 2025 年 4 月 3 日正式对外开放。该馆由 Samuel Vassvik Auestad 私人捐资促成,大幅提升了园方的科普接待与研究能力。植物园持续接受个人捐助、植物与设备馈赠以及志愿服务,所有支持均用于植物保育、繁育与活体收藏的延续。园区全年向公众开放,提供无障碍路径,学校与团体参观可提前预约。
History
Rogaland Arboret is located in Sandnes, Rogaland county, in southwestern Norway. It was founded in 1972 by Bjørn A. Stangebye as a private, non-profit foundation, with the support of Rogaland County and the municipalities of Gjesdal, Hå, Klepp, Randaberg, Sandnes, Sola, Stavanger, and Time. The initiative arose in the wake of the 1970 Melsheia fire, which devastated about 6,000 decares of woodland and highlighted the need for ex-situ plant conservation and public education. Nursery owner Arne F. Bryne was a key professional contributor in the early years. The first 30 years of the arboretum’s history are documented in the book Treet – et symbol på liv (The Tree – a Symbol of Life).
Landscape and Location
The arboretum covers roughly 700 decares (about 70 hectares) of woodland, with the main entrance at Espelandveien 240, Sandnes. From the E39 highway, follow signs for the arboretum at Bråsteinvatnet, between Figgjo and Sandnes; the entrance lies about 2 km from the E39 exit toward Sviland, on the left, with ample on-site parking. The trail network was built largely by Sigurd Aarsland, who chaired the board from 2000 to 2006; named paths include the Sigurd Aarsland Trail around Skittjørn (with the Canal Trail), the Lovers’ Trail north of the Upper Pond, and the Spring Trail through the ornamental cherry collection. In 2010 the grounds were expanded by about 113 decares, joining the Melshei trail system.
Plant Collections
About 1,400 species and cultivars are cultivated, arranged along three organizing principles: park or garden themes (for example the autumn-color section), systematic groupings (such as the beech section), and geographic origin (such as the southern-hemisphere section). Featured collections include ornamental cherries (Prunus), rhododendrons, witch hazel (Hamamelis), magnolias, yew (Taxus), maples, lindens (Tilia), horse chestnuts (Aesculus), and living-fossil genera such as dawn redwood (Metasequoia), Japanese umbrella pine (Sciadopitys), ash (Fraxinus), viburnum (Viburnum), and poplar (Populus). Since 2002, new sections have been added for rowans (Sorbus), rhododendrons, magnolias, witch hazels, and ornamental cherries.
Mission and Visitor Services
The arboretum defines its mission around four areas: research, nature management, learning, and recreation. The Arboretguiden digital guide, seasonal events, and volunteer-led tours convey knowledge of trees and plants to the wider public and address themes such as climate adaptation and biodiversity. The visitor centre Arborethus provides modern restrooms and a café, open Wednesdays 11:00–13:00 and Sundays 11:00–16:00.
Recent Development and Support
A new education and visitor building, also referred to as Arborethus, was completed in 2024 and officially opened on 3 April 2025. The project was made possible by a private donation from Samuel Vassvik Auestad, lifting the arboretum’s outreach and research capacity to a new level. The arboretum continues to welcome donations of money, plants, equipment, and volunteer labor, all directed toward conservation, propagation, and the maintenance of living plant collections. The site is open year-round, with accessible paths and group or school visits available by appointment.
