芬兰 Mustila树木园 – 芬兰历史最久面积最大的引种树木园

树木园概况

Arboretum Mustila 位于芬兰南部屈米（Kouvola）市辖的埃利迈基（Elimäki），距离首都赫尔辛基约 115 公里，是芬兰历史最久、面积最大的一处引种树木园。整座园地占地约 120 公顷，自 1902 年由芬兰参议员 A. F. Tigerstedt 创办以来，一直以引种外来耐寒木本植物、筛选适合北欧气候的种源为长期课题。一百多年间，园内陆续栽种了近百种针叶树和两百余种阔叶树，以及大量灌木、藤本、鳞茎和多年生草本，是欧洲北部最具规模的引种植物展示地之一。

建园宗旨

Mustila 的核心任务是研究并验证外来树木与灌木在芬兰气候下的耐寒表现，从中筛选出可在当地林业和园林中推广的种源。园方与”树木园之友”志愿团队共同记录每一批引种植物的越冬表现、长势和适应性，长期积累的数据成为后续品种选育与公众科普的依据。

植物收藏

园区最负盛名的收藏是杜鹃花属植物。每年六月，杜鹃花谷（Rhododendron Valley）里数百种常绿杜鹃与落叶杜鹃陆续绽放，花海由谷底铺展到山坡；同期阿茨莉山坡（Azalea Slope）上，色彩鲜艳的落叶杜鹃先一周迎来盛花。除了杜鹃花，园区还成片种植了大量铁杉、北美乔柏、太平洋银冷杉以及形如教堂的塞尔维亚云杉，单株与林片交叠，营造出近似异国森林的视觉效果。

参观与季节

树木园全年对外开放，咖啡厅与纪念品销售随季节调整。园方为团体访客提供芬兰语、瑞典语和英语导览，路线可涵盖阿茨莉山坡、杜鹃花谷、露台和榛子山坡等核心区域。访客也可沿步行道自由参观，每年五月新叶初展、九月最后一周至十月初秋叶转色，是除杜鹃花季之外的另外两个观赏高峰。

组织与公众活动

About the Arboretum

Arboretum Mustila is located in Elimäki, within the city of Kouvola in southern Finland, roughly 115 kilometres northeast of Helsinki. Founded in 1902 by the Finnish senator A. F. Tigerstedt as a trial ground for hardy exotic trees, the arboretum now covers about 120 hectares and is the oldest and largest of its kind in Finland. Across more than a century of continuous planting, nearly one hundred conifer species and over two hundred broad-leaved tree species have been introduced, together with a wide collection of shrubs, vines, bulbs and perennials.

Aims of the Garden

The arboretum exists to test foreign woody plants under Nordic conditions and to identify seed sources that survive and thrive locally. Working with a volunteer group known as the Friends of Arboretum Mustila, the staff record how each introduction fares through Finnish winters, building a long-running dataset that supports both horticultural practice and public education.

Plant Collections

Mustila is best known for its rhododendrons. Each June, hundreds of evergreen rhododendrons and azaleas flower in successive waves across the Rhododendron Valley, while the Azalea Slope above it puts on its display about a week earlier. Beyond rhododendrons, the arboretum plants many conifers in large stands rather than as single specimens: hemlock groves, Western red-cedar, Pacific silver fir and towering Serbian spruce give visitors the feeling of walking through forests far to the south of Finland.

Visiting the Arboretum

The grounds are open every day of the year. The on-site café operates seasonally and serves coffee, pastries and light lunches in summer. Guided tours for groups are available in Finnish, Swedish and English and can be tailored around the Azalea Slope, Rhododendron Valley, Terrace and Hazel Slope. Beyond the rhododendron season, late May brings fresh spring foliage and the final week of September through early October brings the autumn colour peak.

Organisation and Public Role

Arboretum Mustila is run by the Arboretum Mustila Foundation, whose members and the Friends of the Arboretum share responsibility for maintenance, seed collecting and outreach. Each year the foundation publishes a refreshed seed list offering hardy provenances to hobby gardeners and research institutions, and welcomes the wider public to take part in long-term planting trials.
