百年沿革
维多利亚园艺协会于 1921 年 1 月在加拿大不列颠哥伦比亚省维多利亚创立，最初名为“维多利亚及地区小屋园丁互助改进协会”。组织在 1922 年和 1927 年两度更名，最终采用现名。其宗旨始终围绕传播适合维多利亚气候的实用园艺知识，格言是“分享所知，展示所植”。

会议与学习
协会通常在每月第一个星期二举行会议，一月和八月除外。活动由专家讲座、实践工作坊、植物与奖品抽选、会员展台、植物销售、园艺图书馆及交流答疑等环节组成；有特定问题的参与者还可向现场园艺专家寻求建议。
会员交流与展示
会员项目涵盖私人花园开放参观、园艺游学、新老园丁结对、花园共享、新会员小组和出行互助。月度室内展让会员展示本地可栽培、珍稀或特别的植物材料，交流植物鉴定与布展经验，并由合格园艺评审参与评定。
社区贡献与知识传承
协会自 1930 年起发行园艺通讯，现保留近乎完整且可检索的历史档案。协会及会员长期参与支持太平洋园艺中心、阿布哈兹花园和总督府花园修复，并自 1990 年起为当地园艺学生提供助学支持。2021 年百年项目延续了园艺教育、组织合作和社区服务传统。
A Century of Horticulture
The Victoria Horticultural Society was founded in Victoria, British Columbia, in January 1921 as the Victoria and District Cottage Gardeners Mutual Improvement Association. After name changes in 1922 and 1927, it adopted its present identity. Its enduring purpose is to share practical knowledge for successful gardening in Victoria under the motto “Share What You Know, Show What You Grow.”
Non-profit Purpose
VHS is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting and sharing horticultural information, encouraging knowledge and appreciation of horticulture, and cooperating or affiliating with other horticultural organizations. The Society describes itself as Victoria’s largest gardening group, with more than 300 members, while continuing to welcome new members and meeting visitors.
Meetings and Learning
Regular meetings are generally held on the first Tuesday of each month except January and August. Programs combine expert presentations, practical workshops, plant and prize draws, a Parlour Show, plant stalls, library access, and time to meet fellow gardeners. Participants can also seek answers to specific plant and gardening questions from experienced advisers.
Member Programs and Exhibitions
Membership opportunities include Open Gardens, tours and field trips, informal mentoring through Gardener’s Connection, garden sharing, a new members’ group, and ride sharing. The monthly Parlour Show helps members display locally grown or unusual plant material, learn identification and exhibition skills, and share knowledge through qualified horticultural judging.
Community Legacy
The Society began publishing Garden Hints in 1930 and now preserves an almost complete searchable newsletter archive for members. VHS and its members have helped support the Horticulture Centre of the Pacific, Abkhazi Gardens, and garden rehabilitation at Government House. Since 1990 it has also supported local horticultural students, while its 2021 centenary projects carried its educational and community mission into a second century.
