历史沿革

Social Farms & Gardens 由两家长期专注社区园艺与绿康照护的英国慈善机构合并而成, 其前身 Federation of City Farms 与 Care Farming UK 分别在不同领域深耕多年, 为今天的全国性网络奠定了基础. 合并后的机构在英格兰、苏格兰、威尔士与北爱尔兰均设有团队, 总部位于威尔士中部 Newtown 的 Pendinas 社区花园. 机构注册为公司 (Company No. 2011023, VAT 520 2825 82), 并以双重慈善身份运行: 英格兰与威尔士慈善登记号 294494, 苏格兰慈善登记号 SC039440. 其悠久传统延续至今, 2026 年已是合并后运营的第 6 个年头, 整体行业经验超过 50 年.

组织架构与全国网络

机构采用治理委员会主导的架构, 由 1 名主席、1 名司库与多名受托人组成董事会, 下设英格兰 (含伦敦办公室)、苏格兰、威尔士与北爱尔兰 4 个区域团队, 并由首席执行官与各项目负责人共同推进日常运营. 现任赞助人 (Patron) 为 HRH 爱丁堡公爵夫人, 现任荣誉主席 (President) 为柯克哈尔勋爵 (The Lord Curry of Kirkharle Kt CBE). 在国家级倡导层面, 机构是英国全国社区园艺网络 (National Network for Community Gardening) 的核心成员, 与皇家园艺学会 (RHS)、Hubbub、National Park City、Natural England 等组织保持长期协作, 并代表英国参与欧洲城市农场联盟 (European Federation of City Farms) 的事务.

旗舰项目与合作伙伴

Historical Evolution

Social Farms & Gardens was formed from the merger of two long-established UK charities, the Federation of City Farms and Care Farming UK, each with decades of frontline work in community farms, gardens and care farming. Today the charity operates from Pendinas Community Garden in Newtown, Powys, Wales, with regional teams across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is a registered company (No. 2011023, VAT 520 2825 82) and a dual-jurisdiction charity: Charity 294494 in England and Wales, and SC039440 in Scotland. Drawing on more than fifty years of combined sector experience, the organisation continues to represent and support communities that farm, garden and grow together.

Organisation and UK Network

Governance is led by a board of trustees, supported by a Chief Executive and four regional teams in England (including the London office), Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Patron is HRH The Duchess of Edinburgh, and the President is The Lord Curry of Kirkharle Kt CBE. At a national level the charity is a founding member of the National Network for Community Gardening, working alongside the Royal Horticultural Society, Hubbub, the National Park City Foundation and Natural England. It is the UK member of the European Federation of City Farms (EFCF), and hosts the EFCF AGM in the United Kingdom in April 2027. Trustees Malachy Dolan and Mike Hardman, with colleague Amber Alferoff, represented the charity at the 2026 EFCF AGM in Brussels.

Services and Support

Social Farms & Gardens supports 3,500 member organisations, including 200 city and school farms, over 1,000 community gardens, UK care farms, and hundreds of farms and gardens in development. Core services include: the Green Care Quality Mark, an annual site-specific accreditation at 100 GBP; a specialist insurance scheme arranged through preferred broker McClarrons since 2019, now covering more than 200 member organisations; the Community Land Advisory Service (CLAS) funded by the Scottish Government; and a national training and events programme. The publications and resources hub maintains the Have a Grow resource pages, covering planning permission, Welsh language use, Farm Business Tenancy guidance and other practical topics, and the bi-monthly Resource Round Up digest curates funding opportunities for members.

Flagship Projects and Partnerships

Have a Grow 2026 (Trio Tyfu 2026) funded 15 community projects across Wales, while the three-year Camau Gwyrdd programme, supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, connects Champion groups with communities taking their first climate action steps. The Carmarthenshire Machinery Ring pilots shared equipment access for small-scale growers, supported by Lantra and Sustainable Farming Consultancy. In Scotland, CLAS Scotland helps communities use the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015. In Northern Ireland, the 6.5 million GBP Acorn Farm project engaged 260 families, and the Community Growing Benchmark report led Belfast City Council to adopt a 1,250 square metre per 1,000 households standard in its 2024 community plan. In England, the charity delivers CEVAS countryside education accreditation through the Access To Farms partnership, and works with CACI on grants and volunteer days near Bristol and London.

Membership and the 2026-31 Strategy

Membership is free and open online to community farms, gardens, school farms and green care organisations. Benefits include a public member directory listing, monthly member webinars, the Resource Round Up funding digest, the McClarrons insurance scheme, free job vacancy advertising, and access to experienced staff and volunteer advisers. On 25 February 2026 the charity announced 19 Community Management Awards Cymru recipients across Powys, Wrexham, Conwy, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Denbighshire, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Ceredigion and Swansea; nominations for the 2027 awards close on 21 July. The 2026-31 Strategic Plan sets out three themes: Building the Movement, Making the Case and Radical Inclusion. The charity will host the EFCF AGM in the United Kingdom in April 2027 and a national Spring Conference in 2027.
