历史沿革
江西农业大学的前身可追溯至 1905 年创办的江西实业学堂,1908 年更名为江西高等农业学堂。本科教育肇始于 1940 年创办的国立中正大学,1952 年院系调整中组建江西农学院;1958 年创办江西共产主义劳动大学总校,1969 年与江西农学院合并办学,1980 年 11 月正式更名为江西农业大学。2025 年 12 月,学校召开第四次党员代表大会,提出创建有特色高水平农业大学、奋力谱写中国式现代化江西篇章的奋斗目标。
学科体系
学校现设有 17 个教学单位,学科涵盖农、理、工、经、管、文、法、教、艺等 9 大学科门类。拥有一级学科博士点 9 个、专业学位博士点 1 个,博士后科研流动站 5 个、一级学科硕士点 21 个、专业学位硕士点 12 个;ESI 全球前 1% 学科 6 个,国家林业和草原局重点学科 1 个、江西省一流学科 4 个。本科专业 60 个,其中国家级一流本科专业建设点 13 个、国家级特色专业 5 个,动物科学专业通过全国首批农学门类专业三级认证。全日制在校生(含来华留学生)2.6 万人。
师资人才
学校现有在职教职工 1800 余人,其中博士、硕士学位人员占比 80% 以上。以两位中国科学院院士为代表的国家级人才 176 人次、省部级人才 355 人次,拥有动物遗传学、保护生物学等具有国际重要影响的科研团队以及”全国高校黄大年式教师团队”2 个;国家、省级教学团队 27 个,部省级创新团队 7 个,全国教学名师 2 人、全国模范教师 3 人。校党委书记黄路生院士 2026 年荣获”全国优秀共产党员”称号。学校与英国、加拿大、澳大利亚等 20 余所高校和科研院所建立合作关系。
科研与社会服务
学校独立组建江西首个、生猪领域全国唯一的全国重点实验室,拥有部省级以上科研平台 53 个。牵头自主研发的种猪基因育种技术”中芯一号”处于国际领先水平,首次在国际农业动物中发现宿主基因组影响肠道菌群的因果基因突变,在《Nature》《Science》《Nature Genetics》发表系列长文,获江西第一个国家自然科学基金重大项目、国家科技进步奖与国家技术发明奖;牵头育成的猪新品种”山下长黑”是江西省 1999 年以来首个通过国家审定的新培育猪品种。学校打造”一村一名大学生”培养模式,累计培养党的二十大代表等新型职业农民 2.1 万余名,覆盖江西每个行政村,被农业农村部作为样板推广。
校园文化与历史地位
学校坐落于南昌经济技术开发区,占地总面积 1.6 万亩,校园风景秀丽。办学一百二十年来,累计培养 37 万名各类高素质专门人才,涌现 14 名院士、17 名省部级领导干部、30 多位大学党委书记与校长、100 多位国家有突出贡献专家及全国劳动模范。学校坚持为党育人、为国育才,大力实施质量立校、特色兴校、人才强校战略,努力为推进乡村全面振兴、保障国家粮食安全和重要农产品稳定供给作出新的更大贡献。
Historical Evolution
The history of Jiangxi Agricultural University traces back to the Jiangxi Industrial School founded in 1905, renamed Jiangxi Higher Agricultural School in 1908. Undergraduate education began with the National Chung Cheng University founded in 1940, and the Jiangxi Agricultural College was established during the 1952 departmental restructuring. The Jiangxi Communist Labor University headquarters was founded in 1958 and merged with the Jiangxi Agricultural College in 1969. The institution was formally renamed Jiangxi Agricultural University in November 1980. In December 2025, the university convened its Fourth Party Congress, outlining the goal of building a distinctive high-level agricultural university and contributing to Jiangxi’s Chinese-style modernization.
Discipline System
The university operates 17 teaching units covering agriculture, science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, education and art. It holds 9 first-level doctoral programs, 1 professional doctoral program, 5 postdoctoral research stations, 21 first-level master’s programs, and 12 professional master’s programs. Six disciplines rank in the top 1% in ESI globally, with 1 ministerial-level key discipline and 4 provincial first-class disciplines. Among 60 undergraduate programs, 13 are national first-class undergraduate program construction sites and 5 are national characteristic programs. The Animal Science program is among the first batch certified at Level 3 in agronomy-related majors nationwide. Total enrollment reaches 26,000 full-time students, including international students.
Faculty and Talent
Jiangxi Agricultural University employs over 1,800 faculty and staff members, with more than 80% holding master’s or doctoral degrees. Two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences lead the team, alongside 176 national-level talents and 355 provincial or ministerial-level talents. The university is home to internationally recognized research teams in animal genetics and conservation biology, including 2 National Huang Danian-Style Teacher Teams. It also includes 27 national and provincial teaching teams, 7 ministerial or provincial innovation teams, 2 National Distinguished Teachers and 3 National Model Teachers. Party Secretary Academician Huang Lusheng received the title of Outstanding Communist Party Member of China in 2026. The university maintains cooperation with more than 20 universities and research institutes in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and other countries.
Research and Social Services
The university independently established Jiangxi’s first and the only national key laboratory nationwide in the pig industry, hosting more than 53 provincial or ministerial-level research platforms. Its independently developed pig gene breeding technology “Zhongxin No. 1” leads internationally, and the team first identified causal gene mutations by which the host genome influences gut microbiota in international agricultural animals. Findings have been published as long papers in Nature, Science and Nature Genetics. The university won Jiangxi’s first National Natural Science Foundation major program, National Science and Technology Progress Award and National Technology Invention Award. Its bred pig variety “Shanxia Changhei” is the first newly cultivated pig variety approved nationally from Jiangxi since 1999. The One College Student Per Village training model has produced over 21,000 new professional farmers including the 20th CPC National Congress representatives, covering every administrative village in Jiangxi, and has been promoted as a model by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
Campus Culture and Position
Located in the Nanchang Economic and Technological Development Zone, the campus covers a total area of 16,000 mu and is celebrated for its natural beauty. Over 120 years of operation, the university has produced 370,000 high-caliber professionals, among them 14 academicians, 17 provincial and ministerial-level leaders, more than 30 university Party committee secretaries and presidents, and over 100 nationally distinguished experts and national model workers.
