Frysville Farms is a family-operated nursery in Ephrata, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, cultivating the same 200-plus-acre farm since 1783 and now in its seventh, eighth, and ninth generation of continuous operation. The nursery is structured around three production seasons—spring annuals and hanging baskets, fall garden mums and planters, and Christmas poinsettias, wreaths, and cut trees—serving both retail walk-in customers and wholesale landscape buyers.
Heritage and Generational Continuity
The Fry family has farmed this Lancaster County tract since 1783. Historically the operation included a grist mill producing flour and livestock feed, a rye whiskey distillery, a creamery making butter and cheese, and a poultry-and-livestock farm; the distillery closed in the 1880s, and the grist mill and creamery ceased operations together in 1918. Hybrid poplar propagation began in 1955, and greenhouse production of annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, and hanging baskets expanded through the 1960s, laying the foundation for the current three-season horticultural business.
Spring Production and Output
Spring output centers on roughly 20,000 hanging baskets (geranium, begonia, fuchsia, verbena, lantana, Boston fern, and multi-cultivar combination plantings), more than one million annuals in 1204 market packs and 4-to-6-inch pots (including 55,000-plus Gerbera daisies and a near-equal geranium count, with Rieger and Non-Stop begonias, New Guinea impatiens, dahlias, and petunias), and about 12,000 perennials in 6.5-inch pots across 60-plus cultivars—effectively tripling the count once color selections are included.
Fall Production and Output
Fall production tops 65,000 nine-inch premium garden mums, all pinched and spaced early to attain maximum size and durability; ten-inch hanging basket mums and triple-mum 14-inch terra-cotta planters (topping out at 36 to 48 inches across a mesh the plant grows through) routinely sell out before the season ends. Thousands of 14-inch fall combination planters, 9-inch ornamental kale, and cabbage pots round out the autumn lineup, with the kale-and-cabbage 14-inch combo planter (four plants around a dracaena spike or pennisetum rubrum) now a customer favorite.
Winter Production and Distribution
Winter highlights include 80,000 poinsettias in 50-plus varieties (with combination planters pairing tropicals for added effect), more than 5,000 Douglas-fir wreaths, and the largest single-location display of cut Christmas trees in Lancaster County—Fraser fir, Douglas fir, Concolor fir, and white pine, all freshly cut to order, drilled, and baled at no extra charge. The retail garden center sits on the outskirts of Ephrata with a separate sign-in wholesale resource area for landscape contractors, garden centers, and institutional buyers across southeastern Pennsylvania and neighboring states; seasonal hours expand during spring openings and tighten around winter holidays (current hours and event calendar are published on the official website).
