起源与家族四代传承

罗尔-阿-李（Lohr-A-Lee）温室花园中心位于加拿大艾伯塔省 Olds 镇西郊，经营者是 Carolyn 与 Wayne Lohr 夫妇。Lohr 家族是1900年从美国南达科他州迁到艾伯塔 Lacombe 镇的第四代先锋家庭，”Lohr-A-Lee”一名由 Wayne 外祖父建议，取自韦尔士语中”避风、远离寒风之地”之意，最初是 Wayne 用于注册 Guernsey 牛群的牧场名，后用作牛只 herd name，沿用至今天的温室企业名。

温室扩建与产能

1982 年 Carolyn 与其母亲 Beatrice 在艾伯塔 Stettler 创立 Lohr-A-Lee 温室，生产和销售多年生花坛苗，运营 20 年后因 Bea 的健康原因于 2002 年关闭。Carolyn 与 Wayne 后带家人从温哥华岛迁回艾伯塔，2013 年在 Olds 西郊自家农场拍得 30×96 英尺温室，2015 重新启动；第二栋温室 2017 上线；2019 年增加第三栋 30×96 英尺 Westbrook 温室；2020 年扩建 8640 平方英尺 Westbrook 连栋温室；2022 年再增 4032 平方英尺，目前 31392 平方英尺连栋温室构成温室＋商业＋自种综合产能，2026 年再扩建 10080 平方英尺连栋温室并加装热/遮阳帘，配套 12000 加仑雨水收集与新机械室。

可持续生产与访客信息

Origins & Four-Generation Family

Lohr-A-Lee Greenhouses & Indoor Gardens sits on the Lohr family farm west of Olds, Alberta, Canada. The Lohr family is a fourth-generation Alberta pioneer family that arrived in Lacombe from South Dakota on September 4, 1900. The “Lohr-A-Lee” name was suggested by Wayne’s maternal grandfather as a herd name in 1981-1982, drawing from Welsh references to “lee” as a sheltered place out of the wind, and has been used for the family farm, the Simmental cattle herd, and now the greenhouse business.

Greenhouse Expansion & Production

Originally established in 1982 by Carolyn and Beatrice Lohr at Stettler, Alberta, the greenhouse operated for 20 years before closing due to Bea’s health. After the family relocated to Olds, a 30′ x 96′ greenhouse was purchased at auction in 2013 and restarted in 2015; a second 30′ x 96′ house came online in 2017; a third 30′ x 96′ Westbrook was added in 2019; 8,640 sq ft of Westbrook gutter-connect went up in 2020; 4,032 sq ft more was added in 2022, and a further 10,080 sq ft gutter-connected greenhouse with heat/shade curtains is planned for 2026, bringing total greenhouse space to 31,392 sq ft with a 12,000-gallon rainwater storage and a new mechanical room.

Signature Product Lines

The greenhouse grows locally raised bedding plants, hanging baskets, planters, custom and commercial plantings, and fund-raiser hanging baskets, plus harder-to-find flowers, herbs, and vegetables offered in paks, pots, hanging baskets, and planters. Customers can shop the dedicated online store at LALGreenhouses.ca or buy an eGift Card online. The two principal horticulturists, Carolyn Lohr and Valerie Miller, are both 1978 University of Alberta Plant Science graduates, and Carolyn’s daughter Krystal Czerniak joined the family operation in 2024.

Vegetables & Local Edibles

The vegetable side covers home-garden and pickling favorites: Gherking pickling cucumbers, Jalapeno M and La Bomba jalapeno peppers, Sweet Banana peppers, Cobra large beefsteak tomatoes, Red Russian garlic, and Bouquet and Fern Leaf dill (paired with the pickling cucumbers). All vegetables are greenhouse-started from the seedling stage, and fresh-picked tomatoes are seasonally available. The greenhouses were selected as the AGGA 2023 Grower of the Year, with members touring the property in late August 2023 and the plaque presented at the November Annual Horticulture Trade Show and Garden Party in Red Deer.

Sustainable Production & Visitor Info

Water comes primarily from four on-site wells, supplemented by rainwater harvested from the gutter-connect roofs and stored in a 12,000-gallon cistern; filtration plus automated pH and nutrient injection handle water treatment. Energy is supplied by combined co-generation and solar PV systems designed to run the farm 100% off-grid with surplus exported. Operations are tracked through Square point-of-sale and AgExpert accounting, with detailed production spreadsheets maintained by Wayne Lohr (University of Alberta BSc Agriculture 1977, MSc Agricultural Economics 1989). The greenhouse is open seasonally from spring into early summer each year.
