该机构以「保护、记录并庆祝伦敦历史公园、园林、广场及其他绿地,让所有人受益」为长期使命,其价值观强调 Inspiring(激发)、Inclusive(包容)、Informed(基于研究)与 Influential(具影响力)四个维度。
Planning and Conservation、Inventory and Research、Publications
History and Legal Identity
London Historic Parks & Gardens Trust is a charity registered in England and Wales (Charity No. 1042337) and a company limited by guarantee (Company No. 2935176), trading publicly as London Parks & Gardens (LPG). Its mission is to protect, preserve and celebrate London’s historic parks, gardens, squares and other green spaces for the benefit of everyone, guided by four values: Inspiring, Inclusive, Informed and Influential.
Inventory of Historic Green Spaces
The Inventory is LPG’s free public archive of more than 2,500 parks, gardens, squares, churchyards, cemeteries and other sites of historic interest across London, built over many years by volunteer researchers. Information from the Inventory is linked to external resources such as GoParks London and the Greater London Historic Environment Record so that historic landscape features are recognised within the planning system.
Planning Advocacy and Campaigns
LPG’s Planning and Conservation Working Group reviews weekly planning lists and responds where London’s historic green spaces are at risk. The flagship Victoria Tower Gardens campaign has run for more than a decade: a Grade II listed park inside the Westminster World Heritage Site, protected by Act of Parliament and home to memorials to the anti-slavery movement and the suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst. In 2025 LPG secured the park’s inclusion on Europa Nostra’s 7 Most Endangered list.
Membership, Events and Open Gardens Weekend
LPG is sustained by members, volunteers and donors, with London Open Gardens Weekend serving as the major annual celebration that opens more than 100 hidden private and institutional green spaces to the public each year. The weekend also functions as the charity’s principal fundraising moment. Throughout the year, LPG runs walks, talks and learning projects, including a 2026 collaboration with Whitechapel Gallery on Walking Scores in Mile End Park.
Governance and Public Engagement
The charity is governed by a board of Trustees and operational committees covering Planning and Conservation, Inventory and Research, and Publications. Annual reports and accounts are filed with the UK Charity Commission and Companies House, and supporters can engage through individual giving, legacies, corporate partnerships, volunteering, mailing-list updates and public consultations on planning policy.
