Natuurtuin de Doornduyn
花园还通过外部媒体合作扩大影响——包括 Libelle(2013 年报道)、TV Buitenste Buiten(2019 年电视报道)等荷兰主流园艺与生活类媒体。
About Natuurtuin de Doornduyn
Natuurtuin de Doornduyn is a 25,000-square-metre natural garden in the dune-belt south of Castricum, North Holland (the Netherlands). The garden collects and exhibits snowdrops, fumewort (Corydalis), anemones, ornamental alliums and hostas in a setting that mirrors the surrounding dune landscape. It is open to the public on winter weekends, with a small on-site café in the garden villa.
History and Setting
The garden sits on a parcel historically held by the Kraakman family; the name Doornduyn refers to a historical place-name in the Castricum area. The dune and forest setting creates a naturally shaded environment in which early-flowering bulbs and woodland perennials can be observed close to their wild habitat. The garden’s archive and local-history pages preserve photographs and field notes that document the dune ecology of the surrounding area over more than a decade.
Path Layout and Reading
The garden is structured as a series of themed perennial borders framed by the existing dune woodland. The path system alternates between forest edge, wetland and open dune-grass sections, and includes several rest stops where visitors can stop to study a particular planting. The path markers are intentionally understated, so the visual focus stays on the plants rather than on signage.
Plant Collection and Seasonal Programme
The peak visiting season is February and early March, when the Sneeuwklokjesdagen (snowdrop days) open the garden to walkers. Later in the year, the allium and hosta plantings take over the visual programme, with autumn-flowering anemones carrying the season into October. Visitors can walk the marked paths and warm up with hot drinks and homemade cake in the garden villa.
Media Coverage and Visitor Network
The garden has been featured in Dutch lifestyle and gardening media including Libelle and TV Buitenste Buiten, and is referenced by the regional natural-garden networks of North Holland. The garden’s own website doornduyn.nl carries the current opening schedule, the seasonal photo archive and contact information for group bookings.
