俱乐部沿革与法定地位
苏格兰岩石花园俱乐部（Scottish Rock Garden Club，缩写 SRGC）1933 年在英国爱丁堡成立。最初参与发起的人里包括爱丁堡皇家植物园标本馆策展人 Roland Edgar Cooper，后来担任伦敦切尔西药用植物园策展人、并在 1994 年成为俱乐部终身名誉主席的 William Gregor MacKenzie，以及主持珀斯 Branklyn Garden 的 Dorothy Renton 和 John Taylor Renton 夫妇。俱乐部目前在苏格兰正式登记为慈善机构，会员遍布全球 38 个国家，是苏格兰地区规模最大的园艺协会。沿用至今的会徽以本土的雪滴花（Leucojum）和枝叶为图，下方写有「Scottish Rock Garden Club」字样、「For people who love plants」副标语以及「established 1933」的建立年份。
出版物与种子交换
俱乐部半年一期的彩色期刊《The Rock Garden》从 1933 年的创刊号一直出版到今天，会员可以登录后下载历年期刊，配套的可检索累积索引覆盖植物名、作者、文章标题和地理区域四个维度，可以查到每一期的具体条目。配合期刊，俱乐部还有一份内部半年刊通讯《Dryas》—— 2017 年 7 月之前它叫「Secretary’s Pages」，之后才正式改名，发布时间为每年一月和七月。年度种子交换（Seed Exchange）是俱乐部历史第二久的传统项目，2025/26 季已经办到第 79 届，会员可在 2026 年 10 月 31 日之前提交种子捐赠，2026 年 12 月 1 日 0:01（GMT）开放网上订购，2027 年 1 月 2 日午夜关闭。Ian Young 自 2003 年 1 月开始撰写的《Bulb Log》每周系列到 2022 年底已积累 1040 多期，现在改为每月一篇；Margaret Young、Zdeněk Zvolánek 和 Ian Young 联合主编的电子月刊《International Rock Gardener》自 2009 年起在每月末以 PDF 形式免费发布，是俱乐部对外公开的核心数字资源。
植物展、奖项与公开活动
俱乐部每年春季和秋季在苏格兰及英格兰北部的多个城镇举办面向会员和公众的植物展（Plant Show），让会议员之间互相交流栽培经验、互相切磋。展会最高荣誉 Forrest Medal 颁给当届「最具展示价值的展品」（most meritorious plant in the show），资深参展者 Cyril Lafong 写的「为展览而栽培」专题是俱乐部面向新人的经典入门文章。俱乐部还运行两项面向青年与远征者的资助计划：1985 年设立的 SRGC Exploration Awards 资助与岩生植物相关的野外考察和引种项目，2005 年由已故园艺家 Diana Aitchison 遗产建立的 Diana Aitchison Fund（Horticultural Training and Development Awards）专门资助有意投身园艺事业的年轻人，自设立以来已发放近 75 笔资助 —— Diana 本人曾在爱丁堡植物园受训，后来在诺森伯兰郡 Spindlestone 创办自己的苗圃。2026/27 冬季俱乐部推出主题为「Some of the Great Alpine Plant Genera」的四场免费 Zoom 公开讲座，首场在 2026 年 11 月 5 日举行，由 Scilla（Chionodoxa）和 Meconopsis George Sherriff Group 国家植物收藏负责人、Meconopsis Group 现任主席 Helen Knowles 主讲「The Essential Guide to Meconopsis」。2026 年 2 月 21 日的 Early Bulb Day 在苏格兰邓布兰（Dunblane）的 Victoria Hall 举办，由北爱尔兰 Omagh 的 Esker Farm Daffodils 创办人、RHS Bulb Expert Group 现任主席 Dave Hardy 主讲水仙与球根花卉的栽培。
会员、地方小组与日常联络
俱乐部面向全球开放会员注册，2025 年夏季调整后的主要档位为单人会员英国 £25 / 海外 £35，18 岁以下青少年英国 £5 / 海外 £10，家庭会员英国 £30 / 海外 £40，以及只接收电子邮件和电子期刊的电子会员 £15，电子学生会员在读期间免费。会员除订阅《The Rock Garden》和参加种子交换外，还可以在 Aberdeen、Edinburgh、Glasgow、Perth 等地的本地小组月度聚会以及若干线上小组的 Zoom 讲座中互相交流。俱乐部另独立运行一个 phpBB 论坛（srgc.org.uk/forum）。现任主席是 Richard GREEN，Seed Team、Subscription Secretary Judith Warren、Exploration Awards Secretary Carole Bainbridge 等岗位的联系方式通过 Cedar Cottage, Balfron Station, Glasgow G63 0SQ, United Kingdom 这一通信地址统一对外发布。俱乐部与英国 Alpine Garden Society、北美 North American Rock Garden Society、捷克岩石园协会（CZRGS）等同类组织保持长期姐妹关系。
Club History and Charitable Status
The Scottish Rock Garden Club (SRGC) was founded in Edinburgh in 1933. Its founding members included Roland Edgar Cooper, then curator of the herbarium at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh; William Gregor MacKenzie, who went on to serve as curator of the Chelsea Physic Garden and was made honorary life president of the SRGC in 1994; and Dorothy Renton and John Taylor Renton, the horticulturalists who looked after the Branklyn Garden in Perth. The SRGC is a registered charity in Scotland, has members in 38 countries, and is the largest horticultural society in Scotland. Its emblem, used since the 1930s, combines a Scottish snowflake (Leucojum) and foliage with the club name, the strapline “For people who love plants” and the date “established 1933”.
Publications and Seed Exchange
The twice-yearly colour journal The Rock Garden has appeared continuously since the first issue in 1933; members can log in to download back issues, and the club maintains searchable cumulative indexes covering plant names, author names, article titles and geographical areas. Alongside the journal the club publishes the internal twice-yearly newsletter Dryas in January and July, known until July 2017 as the Secretary’s Pages. The annual Seed Exchange, now in its seventy-ninth season (2025/26), accepts member donations until 31 October 2026 and opens online ordering at 00:01 GMT on 1 December 2026, closing at midnight GMT on Friday 2 January 2027. Ian Young’s Bulb Log, started in January 2003 as a one-year project, had produced more than 1,040 weekly entries by the end of 2022 and is now issued monthly; the free monthly e-magazine International Rock Gardener, edited jointly by Margaret Young, Zdeněk Zvolánek and Ian Young, has been published as a PDF since 2009 and is the SRGC’s main open-access digital title.
Shows, Awards and Public Events
The SRGC runs plant shows in spring and autumn at venues around Scotland and the north of England; the most coveted prize is the Forrest Medal, awarded for the most meritorious plant in the show, and the SRGC’s champion exhibitor Cyril Lafong has written the standard introduction to growing-for-showing for newcomers. Two grant schemes support the wider alpine community: the SRGC Exploration Awards, set up in 1985 to fund travel and plant-collecting trips, and the Diana Aitchison Fund (Horticultural Training and Development Awards), established in 2005 through a bequest from the late Diana Aitchison — who trained at the Edinburgh Botanic Garden and later ran her own nursery at Spindlestone near Belford, Northumberland — which has issued almost seventy-five awards to young horticulturists. The 2026/27 winter programme offers four free public Zoom talks under the theme “Some of the Great Alpine Plant Genera”, opening on Thursday 5 November 2026 with Helen Knowles, holder of National Plant Collections of Scilla (Chionodoxa) and Meconopsis (George Sherriff Group) and President of the Meconopsis Group, speaking on “The Essential Guide to Meconopsis”. The 2026 Early Bulb Day was held on 21 February at the Victoria Hall in Dunblane, with Dave Hardy — owner of Esker Farm Daffodils in Omagh, Co. Tyrone, and Chair of the RHS Bulb Expert Group — speaking on daffodil and bulb growing in Northern Ireland.
Membership, Local Groups and Contacts
The SRGC welcomes members worldwide at the rates set in summer 2025: £25 single / £35 overseas, £5 junior (under 18) / £10 overseas, £30 family / £40 overseas and £15 electronic-only (electronic student membership remains free while studying). Members receive The Rock Garden, can order from the Seed Exchange and join local group meetings in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth, plus several online groups that meet by Zoom. The SRGC runs an independent phpBB forum at srgc.org.uk/forum. The current President is Richard GREEN; the Seed Team, Subscription Secretary Judith Warren and Exploration Awards Secretary Carole Bainbridge are the main points of contact, and the club’s postal address is Cedar Cottage, Balfron Station, Glasgow G63 0SQ, United Kingdom. The SRGC maintains long-standing sister-society ties with the Alpine Garden Society (UK), the North American Rock Garden Society (NARGS) and the Czech Rock Gardeners Society (CZRGS).
