历史由来
这处花园位于丹麦西北部 Snedsted 镇 Engkærbros 4 号，是 Gunda 与 Karl Kristensen 夫妇在自家庭院中经年营建的一处私人植物收藏地。当地基土原为钙质，夫妻俩为适应所喜爱的植物需求，把多数花园区块逐步改成酸性土，在朝南缓坡上围出多个由小径与草坪相连的独立小园。这处低调的家庭园地，长期在丹麦与北欧球根与高山植物爱好者圈子里口口相传，是 Trillium、Hepatica、Adonis、Cypripedium、Paeonia 等专类爱好者来丹麦时必登门拜访的一站。
植物收藏
园中收藏以高山植物与早春球根为主轴，划分成十几个专类园区。酸性土区块密植 Rhododendron、Helleborus、Trillium、Lilium 与 Primula 等喜酸类群；钙质保留地块则集中栽植 Paeonia 芍药属；多处分设的石灰岩高山床栽种岩生植物；两座高山温室在早春展示 Hepatica 獐耳细辛专类收藏。Trillium 区块尤为可观，仅延龄草属就收有近百个种与品种，涵盖亚洲的 T. grandiflorum、T. erectum、T. sulcatum、T. flexipes、T. nivale、T. catesbaei 等系列；Hepatica 收藏以北欧与日本选育的 H. nobilis 系列命名种为主；Adonis 则以日本选育的 A. amurensis 命名品种见长。
早春与高山温室
每年早春，Hepatica 与 Adonis 抢先在两座高山温室与户外苗床中开花，是花园最具特色的时段。夫妻俩常年与英国、美国、日本的球根与高山协会保持交流，引种记录细致到每个物种的采集地与命名者。园中同时保育有 Arisaema 天南星属、Fritillaria 贝母属、Polygonatum 黄精属、Orchis 与 Cypripedium 等地生兰类、Lilium 百合属多个原生种，以及 Thalictrum 唐松草属日本选育的重瓣与斑叶系列。整体规模虽为家庭园圃级别，但物种与品种的细分密度，已经接近一座小型专类植物保育园。
对外交流与会员资格
园主两人长期活跃于丹麦与北欧的园艺组织，是丹麦 Haveselskabet、Trädgardsamatörerna、Alpine Garden Society、Scottish Rock Garden Club、Dansk Pæonselskab、Dansk Iris- & Lilje Selskab 等园艺协会会员，也与英国 Royal Horticultural Society、Lily Group、American Primrose Society、The National Auricula and Primula Society 保持交流，园中不少物种通过 AGS Seed Exchange 与 SRGC Seed Exchange 获得。站点大方公开植物清单与栽培记录，已成为欧洲球根与高山植物爱好者查阅 Trillium、Paeonia、Primula、Orchis 等专类品种时常用的对照资料。
参观与版权说明
花园位于丹麦西北部 Thy 地区 Snedsted 镇郊，夏季数月对访客开放，惯例要求提前电话或邮件预约以确认园主在家，避免扑空。园中图片均为园主个人摄影，长期受版权保护，使用前需经本人同意。夫妻俩长期通过邮件与国际同行交换种子，交流范围覆盖 AGS、SRGC 与多位英国、北欧、日本的育种人；近年因园务繁忙，2026 年余下时段暂停对外开放，具体恢复时间以站点公告为准。
History
The garden lies on a south-facing gentle slope in the windswept northwestern part of Denmark, in the town of Snedsted, address Engkærbros 4, DK-7752. It is a private collection garden tended for many years by Gunda and Karl Kristensen around their own house. The original soil is calcareous, but in most rooms the couple replaced it with acidic soil to suit their plant preferences, dividing the property into several small gardens tied together by paths and lawns. The garden is well known among Trillium, Hepatica, Adonis, Cypripedium, and Paeonia enthusiasts throughout Scandinavia and Northern Europe, and is a regular stop for bulb and alpine plant specialists visiting Denmark.
Plant Collection
The collection centres on alpine plants and spring-flowering bulbs, organised into a dozen or so themed beds. Acidic-soil blocks are densely planted with Rhododendron, Helleborus, Trillium, Lilium, and Primula; the remaining calcareous ground hosts a large Paeonia collection; several limestone rock garden beds are set aside for true alpines; and a pair of alpine houses display the Hepatica collection in early spring. The Trillium section is particularly extensive, with close to a hundred species and cultivars, including Asian T. grandiflorum, T. erectum, T. sulcatum, T. flexipes, T. nivale, T. catesbaei and many named forms. The Hepatica collection leans heavily on Nordic and Japanese H. nobilis selections, and the Adonis section is rich in Japanese A. amurensis named cultivars.
Early Spring and the Alpine Houses
Every early spring, Hepatica and Adonis bloom first under glass in the two alpine houses and in the outdoor beds, the most distinctive weeks in the garden’s calendar. The couple maintain long-standing exchanges with bulb and alpine societies in Britain, the United States, and Japan, and keep detailed records down to the provenance and selector of each plant. The garden also conserves Arisaema, Fritillaria, Polygonatum, several terrestrial orchids including Orchis and Cypripedium, a wide range of species Lilium, and a strong set of Japanese-bred Thalictrum thalictroides double and variegated forms. Although a private garden in scale, the species and cultivar density approaches that of a small specialist conservation garden.
Society Membership and Exchange
The owners are long-standing members of Danish and Nordic horticultural societies, including Haveselskabet, Trädgardsamatörerna, Alpine Garden Society, Scottish Rock Garden Club, Dansk Pæonselskab, and Dansk Iris- & Lilje Selskab. They also keep in touch with the Royal Horticultural Society and Lily Group in Britain, the American Primrose Society, and The National Auricula and Primula Society, and a large share of the species in the garden has been sourced through the AGS and SRGC Seed Exchanges. The site openly publishes plant lists and cultivation notes, and has become a reference resource for Trillium, Paeonia, Primula, and Orchis cultivars across the European bulb and alpine community.
Visiting and Copyright
The garden is in the Thy area on the northwestern coast of Denmark, outside the small town of Snedsted, and is open to visitors during the summer months by prior arrangement only, usually by phone or email to confirm the owners will be at home. All photographs on the site are the owners’ own work and remain under copyright; any reuse requires their permission. The couple regularly exchange seed with international growers through AGS, SRGC, and a network of breeders in Britain, Scandinavia, and Japan. Due to garden work, the garden is closed for the remainder of 2026; reopening will be announced on the official site.
