学校沿革与办学定位
华南农业大学是国家”双一流”建设高校，校园坐落在素有”花城”美誉的广州市，土地总面积 8199 亩，其中天河五山校部 4395 亩，增城教学科研基地 3804 亩，总建筑面积 161 万平方米，自然景色与人文景观交相辉映，形成”五湖四海一片林”的校园环境。学校办学历史可追溯至始创于 1909 年的广东全省农事试验场暨附设农业讲习所；1952 年全国高校院系调整时，由中山大学农学院、岭南大学农学院和广西大学农学院畜牧兽医系及病虫害系的一部分合并成立华南农学院，隶属农业部主管，毛泽东主席亲笔题写校名；1979 年经国务院批准列为全国重点高等学校，1984 年更名为华南农业大学，2000 年由农业部划归广东省主管，2015 年进入广东省高水平大学建设行列，2022 年入选国家”双一流”建设高校。学校现任党委书记李凤亮、校长薛红卫。
学科布局与人才培养
华南农业大学是一所以农业科学、生命科学为优势，农、工、理、文、史、经、管、法、艺等多学科协调发展的综合性大学。学校学科门类齐全，设 25 个学院（部），在校生 5 万余人（含留学生），其中本科生 3.6 万余人、研究生 1.4 万余人。有 96 个本科专业、13 个博士学位授权一级学科、3 个博士专业学位类别、30 个硕士学位授权一级学科、21 个硕士专业学位类别；作物学入选国家”双一流”建设学科，另获批 10 个广东省高水平大学建设计划重点建设学科。植物学与动物学、农业科学进入 ESI 全球排名前 1‰；植物学与动物学、农业科学、化学、环境科学与生态学、材料科学、工程学、微生物学、生物学与生物化学、分子生物学与遗传学、免疫学、计算机科学、药理学与毒理学、社会科学总论、临床医学等 14 个学科进入 ESI 全球排名前 1%。兽医学、农学、食品科学与工程分别位列 2025 年软科世界一流学科排名全球第 8、第 9、第 19 位。
师资队伍与人才培养体系
学校持续深化人事制度改革，现有教职工 3390 人，其中专任教师 2371 人（正高级 530 人、副高级 952 人）；有中国科学院院士 1 人、中国工程院院士 2 人，国家级人才项目和省级人才项目获得者 200 余人，国家级教学名师 5 人。人才培养方面，学校有国家级一流本科专业建设点 27 个、国家级特色专业 12 个、专业综合改革试点 2 个、卓越农林人才教育培养计划改革试点专业 8 个、国家级一流本科课程 49 门及多门国家级精品课程；近两届获国家级教学成果奖 6 项（其中主持获一等奖 1 项、二等奖 3 项），被教育部确定为”立德树人机制综合改革试点高校””三全育人”综合改革试点高校和”全国毕业生就业典型经验高校”。
科研平台与社会服务
学校聚焦”四个面向”，建有农业装备技术全国重点实验室、猪禽种业全国重点实验室、动物疫病防控全国重点实验室、绿色农药全国重点实验室、国家植物航天育种工程技术研究中心、国家生猪种业工程技术研究中心等 13 个国家级科研平台、125 个省部级科研平台和 5 个广东省高校特色新型智库；近年来获国家科学技术奖 19 项，实现国家科技进步、技术发明和自然科学三大奖全覆盖。学校设立乡村振兴研究院和新农村发展研究院，校地企共建产学研新型研发机构 25 个，与政府共建乡村振兴研究院地方分院 10 个、新农村发展研究院地方分院 10 个，建设永根科技站站点 105 个（含 7 个海外站点），长期面向广东 21 个地级以上市 1500 多个行政村开展”百千万工程”突击队服务。
国际交流与对外开放
学校积极构建对外开放新格局，目前已与 50 个国家和地区的 179 所大学及研究机构签订 312 份合作协议或备忘录，成立广州都柏林国际生命科学与技术学院；获批 3 个国家高等学校学科创新引智基地（”111 计划”），加入粤港澳高校联盟并牵头成立”粤港澳高校植物科学家联盟”。学校牵头组建的”中国-拉丁美洲农业教育科技创新联盟”已有中国和拉美 15 个国家的 79 所院校及科研机构入盟，并与教育部中外语言交流合作中心以及巴西、墨西哥等高校共建全球首批”中文+农业科教发展中心”项目。
History and Position
South China Agricultural University (SCAU) is a “Double First-Class” university designated by the Chinese central government. Its campus lies in the city of Guangzhou, known as the “Flower City,” covering a total area of 8,199 mu (about 547 hectares), split between the Wushan campus in Tianhe District (4,395 mu) and the Zengcheng teaching and research base (3,804 mu), with a total floor area of 1.61 million square meters. The school’s history traces back to the Guangdong Provincial Agricultural Experiment Station and Affiliated Agricultural Lecturers’ Seminar founded in 1909. In 1952, during the nationwide restructuring of colleges and departments, the agricultural colleges of Sun Yat-sen University, Lingnan University, and parts of the animal husbandry, veterinary, and plant disease-insect divisions of Guangxi University merged to form South China Agricultural College under the Ministry of Agriculture; Chairman Mao Zedong personally inscribed the school name. In 1979, the State Council approved its designation as a national key institution of higher learning; it was renamed South China Agricultural University in 1984, transferred from the Ministry of Agriculture to Guangdong Province in 2000, entered the Guangdong High-Level University initiative in 2015, and was admitted to the national “Double First-Class” initiative in 2022. The current Party Secretary is Li Fengliang, and the President is Xue Hongwei.
Disciplines and Talent Cultivation
SCAU is a comprehensive university with strengths in agricultural and life sciences and coordinated development across agriculture, engineering, science, literature, history, economics, management, law, and the arts. It comprises 26 colleges and departments (including affiliated units) with more than 50,000 enrolled students, including over 36,000 undergraduates and 14,000 graduate students. The university offers 96 undergraduate programs, 13 first-level doctoral degree authorization disciplines, 3 professional doctoral degree categories, 30 first-level master’s degree authorization disciplines, and 21 professional master’s degree categories. Crop Science was admitted to the national “Double First-Class” discipline initiative, and another 10 disciplines are key construction disciplines under the Guangdong High-Level University Plan. Plant and Animal Science, and Agricultural Science rank in the ESI global top 1‰, while 14 disciplines—including Plant and Animal Science, Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Ecology, Materials Science, Engineering, Microbiology, Biology and Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Immunology, Computer Science, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Social Sciences (general), and Clinical Medicine—rank in the ESI global top 1%. Veterinary Science, Agronomy, and Food Science and Engineering rank 8th, 9th, and 19th respectively in the 2025 Shanghai Ranking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects.
Faculty and Educational Talent Cultivation System
The university continues to deepen the reform of its faculty system, with 3,390 faculty and staff members, including 2,371 full-time teachers (530 at full professor rank and 952 at associate professor rank). It has 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, more than 200 recipients of national and provincial talent programs, and 5 nationally renowned teachers. In terms of talent cultivation, the university hosts 27 national first-class undergraduate program construction sites, 12 national characteristic specialties, 2 pilot programs for comprehensive specialty reform, 8 pilot specialties under the Outstanding Agriculture and Forestry Talent Education and Training Program Reform, 49 national first-class undergraduate courses, and many other national quality courses. In the past two sessions, it has received 6 national teaching achievement awards (including 1 first prize and 3 second prizes as the lead institution), and has been designated by the Ministry of Education as a pilot university for virtue-establishing and people-cultivating mechanism comprehensive reform, a “Three-Aspect Education” comprehensive reform pilot, and a “National Model University for Graduate Employment.”
Research Platforms and Social Services
Focusing on the “Four Orientations,” the university has built 13 national-level research platforms—including the National Key Laboratory of Agricultural Equipment Technology and Systems, the National Key Laboratory of Pig and Poultry Breeding Industry, the National Key Laboratory of Animal Disease Prevention and Control, the National Key Laboratory of Green Pesticides, the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Plant Aerospace Breeding, and the National Engineering Technology Research Center for Pig Industry—along with 125 provincial- and ministerial-level research platforms and 5 Guangdong provincial new-type think tanks with university characteristics. In recent years, it has received 19 National Science and Technology Awards, achieving full coverage of the three major awards: National Science and Technology Progress Award, National Technology Invention Award, and National Natural Science Award. The university has established the Rural Revitalization Research Institute and the New Rural Development Research Institute, co-built 25 industry-academia-research new-type R&D institutions with local governments and enterprises, co-established 10 branch institutes of the Rural Revitalization Research Institute and 10 branch institutes of the New Rural Development Research Institute with governments, and operates 105 Yonggen Science and Technology Stations (including 7 overseas stations).
International Exchange and Opening Up
SCAU actively builds a new pattern of opening up. To date, it has signed 312 cooperation agreements or memoranda with 179 universities and research institutions across 50 countries and regions, established the Guangzhou-Dublin International College of Life Sciences and Technology, obtained 3 National Higher Education Discipline Innovation Introductions (the “111 Plan”), joined the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance, and led the establishment of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Plant Scientists Alliance.” The China-Latin America Agricultural Education, Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, led by the university, includes 79 institutions from 15 countries across China and Latin America. It has also co-built the world’s first batch of “Chinese + Agricultural Science and Education Development Center” projects with the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and partner universities in Brazil and Mexico.
