新西兰山茶花协会 – 新西兰山茶花栽培与评展公益团体

历史与定位

新西兰山茶花协会（NZ Camellia Society Inc.）成立于 1957 年，是新西兰全国性的山茶花爱好者非营利组织。协会以促进山茶花栽培、品种展示与学术交流为宗旨，会员遍布新西兰南北岛，于每年 8 月轮流在不同城市举办全国大会与评展。自 1961 年起，协会开始系统性地登记在新西兰境内培育的山茶花新品种，是英语世界山茶花学术网络的重要节点。

组织结构与分会网络

协会现有 15 个分会（branches）分布在新西兰各地，由各地山茶花爱好者组成并独立运作。各分会定期举办会员聚会、栽培技术讲座、扦插与嫁接示范、内部评展会以及花园参观活动，绝大多数聚会面向访客开放，无需正式会员身份即可参与。分会事务由本地委员会安排，会费标准、活动频率因地而异，但均以友谊与共同兴趣为基础，为新西兰的园艺爱好者提供了稳定的线下交流平台。

学术活动与全国大会

协会每年 8 月举办的全国山茶花大会（National Camellia Show and Convention）是新西兰山茶花界的核心盛事，评展、栽培讲座与年度会员大会均在会议周末完成。2026 年全国大会定于 8 月 21—23 日在新西兰北岛纳皮尔（Napier）的 East Pier Hotel 举行，并将首次采用新形式向公众集中展示年度冠军花朵（Champion Bloom）。2025 年全国冠军花朵是杂交种 “Spring Daze”。

山茶花品种登记与栽培

协会自 1961 年起维护新西兰自育山茶花品种的名录（New Zealand Raised Camellias），是英语世界少数坚持 60 余年本土山茶花育种登记的园艺机构之一。登记规则遵循国际园艺科学协会（ISHS）的山茶花命名通则，对新品种名称的字数、音节数、外语来源等有详细规定。会员可以下载登记表格，将自己培育的新品种提交至登记员审核，审核通过的花朵将进入新西兰以及国际山茶花登记体系（International Camellia Register）。

出版物与会员服务

协会为会员提供半年刊《Camellia Bulletin》，每年 4 月与 11 月发行，刊载栽培技术、品种介绍、各地分会动态与国际山茶花界资讯。会员还可获得分支聚会、参加全国大会、参观私人山茶花园以及申报新品种等权益。本土个人会员年费 45 新西兰元，家庭会员 50 新西兰元，海外会员 55 新西兰元；2026 年起 ICS（国际山茶花协会）会员可通过本地协调人入会，享受双轨服务。

Origins and Mission

The New Zealand Camellia Society Inc. was founded in 1957 as a national non-profit organisation devoted to the cultivation, exhibition, and study of camellias. The Society sits within the international camellia research community and has maintained an unbroken record of locally-raised cultivar registrations since 1961, making it one of the longest-running national camellia registries in the English-speaking world. Its membership spans both the North and South Islands of New Zealand, and its flagship gathering rotates between host cities each August.

Branch Network Across New Zealand

The Society currently operates through 15 branches spread across New Zealand, each organised by a local committee of enthusiasts. Branches hold regular meetings, propagation demonstrations, talks by guest speakers, in-house competitions, annual shows, and informal garden visits to private collections, with most activities welcoming non-members to attend. This grassroots structure has remained broadly unchanged since the Society’s early decades and provides a stable forum for camellia growers and collectors of all experience levels.

Annual National Show and Convention

The annual National Camellia Show and Convention is the Society’s main showcase, bringing together exhibitors, judges, and visitors from across the country for a single weekend each August. The 2026 Convention will be held in Napier between 21 and 23 August at the East Pier Hotel, Ahuriri, and will adopt a new format that opens the show to broader public participation. The 2025 Champion Bloom of the Show was the hybrid cultivar ‘Spring Daze’, bred and exhibited in New Zealand.

Cultivar Registration Programme

The New Zealand Raised Camellias register has been maintained continuously since 1961 and is governed by the naming rules codified by the International Society for Horticultural Science. New cultivars raised by members may be submitted for registration via downloadable forms; approved entries enter both the New Zealand register and the wider International Camellia Register maintained by the International Camellia Society (ICS). The Society publishes photos of registered varieties online as they become available.

Publications and Member Services

Members receive the Society’s Camellia Bulletin twice a year, in April and November, featuring illustrated articles on cultivation, varietal history, branch news, and international camellia developments. Membership also grants access to branch meetings, garden visits, the National Convention, and cultivar registration services. Individual New Zealand membership is NZ$45 per year, family membership NZ$50, and overseas membership NZ$55; ICS members may join through a New Zealand-based coordinator and pay reduced fees.
