Heritage Roses New Zealand
Ken Nobbs 先生(已故)生前长期以《Heritage Roses New Zealand Journal》和《新西兰园丁》为平台发表关于老玫瑰的文章,并著有诗集《The collected writings of Ken Nobbs》,收录 1977–2005 年间的文章;他还以一系无刺玫瑰(thornless roses)闻名——后世多处引种 Nobbs 出品的玫瑰。
据《World Federation of Rose Societies Heritage Rose Newsletter》2008 年文献记载,Bay of Plenty 曾主持过全国执行委员会,2001 年由奥塔哥(Otago)分会接手;同年会员总数约为 725 人。
HRNZI 还设立过 Heritage Roses New Zealand Research Scholarship(自 2005 年第十二届国际老玫瑰大会后明确)。
(World Federation of Rose Societies, WFRS)Heritage Rose Group
(RNZIH,Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture)长期合作;2016 年 RNZIH Awards 颁奖中,HRNZI 的集体贡献获得表彰。
About Heritage Roses New Zealand
Heritage Roses New Zealand Inc. (HRNZI) is a national society founded in June 1980 by Mrs Toni Sylvester and the late Mr Ken Nobbs, both members of heritage rose groups in Australia and the United States. The society grew out of a chance meeting between the two founders, who believed a comparable interest group existed in New Zealand. HRNZI defines a heritage rose as any rose cultivar or species one hundred years old or older, using a rolling hundred-year window. The society organises New Zealand’s national and regional activity in heritage rose identification, conservation, publication and public education. Ken Nobbs went on to publish extensively in the HRNZI Journal and in New Zealand Gardener, and to breed a series of thornless roses; his collected writings were later published as a standalone volume covering 1977 to 2005. Toni Sylvester served as guest editor for the September 2005 issue of the HRNZI Journal.
Organisation and Membership
HRNZI is organised along regional groups that rotate responsibility for the National Executive. Membership stood at approximately 725 individuals in 2001 after the Otago region took over the executive role. The current Treasurer is Graeme Veale; the society’s registered contact address is in the Whanganui area of New Zealand’s North Island. Members receive the HRNZI Journal and have access to regional open-garden days and propagation workshops.
Publications and Research
The HRNZI Journal has run continuously since the society’s founding and is a primary record of heritage rose research and identification work in New Zealand. The society also hosts the Heritage Roses New Zealand Research Scholarship, established in 2005 to fund investigations into old rose history, identification, propagation and historically planted sites.
International Activity
HRNZI is an active member of the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS) Heritage Rose Group and has co-organised several International Heritage Roses Conferences, including hosting the 2005 conference under the theme “old roses: ours today, theirs tomorrow” with attendees from twelve countries. The society maintains partnerships with the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, regional botanical gardens such as the Heritage Rose Garden in the Christchurch Botanical Gardens, and affiliated heritage rose groups in Australia, the United States and Europe.
How to participate
Membership enquiries, scholarly research proposals and volunteer opportunities can be sent through the society’s official site or by post to the Whanganui-area address. Open-garden events run throughout the year across the various regional branches.
