位于纽芬兰与拉布拉多省圣约翰市的纽芬兰纪念大学植物园（Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden, 缩写 MUNBG）是该省规模最大的一处综合性植物园，同时也是加拿大最东端的高校植物园。它隶属于纽芬兰纪念大学，是大学教学、研究与社区服务结合的延伸机构。园区占地 110 英亩（约 44.5 公顷），其中包含一条 3.5 公里长的自然步道、一个大型栽培展示区、一座对外开放的温室以及一间高山植物馆。

展示区由多座主题花园构成，按气候与用途划分为 Alpine House（高山植物馆）、Asian Garden（亚洲园）、Cottage Garden（村舍花园）、Crevice Garden（缝隙花园）、Potager Garden（蔬菜花卉混栽园）、Heritage Garden（传统植物园）、Medicinal Garden（药用植物园）、New Plant Showcase（新植物展示区）、Perennial Border（多年生花境）、Rhododendron Border 与 Rhododendron Garden（杜鹃花境与专类园）、Rock Garden（岩石园）、Shade Garden（荫生园）、Teaching / Children’s Garden（教学与儿童园）等十余处。植物园下设游客服务、教育推广、植物保育、园艺管理与发展筹款等部门，主任 Kim Shipp 主持日常工作，常驻园艺师 Todd Boland、Tim Walsh、助理园艺师 Meghan McCarthy 与 Josh Elyk 等人长期负责园区植物配置与育苗。
活体植物收藏与研究
活体植物收藏逾 2500 个分类群。其中杜鹃花属单独超过 250 个品种，多数来自大西洋沿岸省份的本地育种；玉簪属接近 100 个栽培品种；高山植物收集覆盖全球主要山脉体系。植物园长期主导稀有植物迁地保护项目，重点保护对象是纽芬兰岛北部半岛石灰岩荒原上特有的几种濒危植物，包括巴伦斯柳（Salix jejuna）、长氏白旗草（Braya longii）等多个 COSEWIC 评定的濒危物种。
教学与品种测试合作
植物园自 2008 至 2017 年间是北美花卉种子公司 BallFlora 的试种合作站之一，自 2014 年起正式成为全美精选（All-America Selections, 缩写 AAS）测试花园，承担新品种一年生与多年生植物园花卉的评比与推荐。配合教学项目，植物园从大学植物学系、环境科学系与园艺课程接收学生实习与现场教学，是大学校园外向延伸的户外实验室，也是省内植物多样性展示与乡土植物保育的核心平台。
志愿者与季节性活动
志愿者与社区参与通过 Friends of the Garden（FOG）组织，会员每年至少志愿 15 小时，可享门票折扣、礼品店折扣、节庆活动优先权等权益。除日常开放与教育项目外，植物园每年都开展一系列季节性活动：春夏有 Twilight Thursday（周四黄昏延长开放）、Sunday Bird Walks（周日观鸟）、Seedy Saturday（种子交换日）、Kayaks on Oxen Pond（湖上独木舟）；冬季 11 月底至 12 月举办 Merry & Bright 灯光节，由本地 IG Wealth Management 冠名赞助，已成为圣约翰市冬季传统节庆之一。
History and Institutional Profile
Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden (MUNBG), located in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, is the province’s premier botanical garden and the easternmost university botanical garden in Canada. The Garden operates as a not-for-profit charity within Memorial University, integrating its tripartite mission of research, education, and public engagement. It spans 110 acres (about 44.5 hectares) of designed and natural landscapes, with 3.5 kilometres of nature trails winding through a large cultivated display area, a public greenhouse, and a dedicated alpine house.
Themed Garden Sections
The cultivated portion is laid out as a sequence of themed gardens, including an Alpine House, Asian Garden, Cottage Garden, Crevice Garden, Potager Garden, Heritage Garden, Medicinal Garden, New Plant Showcase, Perennial Border, Rhododendron Border and Rhododendron Garden, Rock Garden, Shade Garden, and a Teaching / Children’s Garden. Operations are overseen by Director Kim Shipp, with a horticultural team that includes research horticulturist Todd Boland, nursery manager Tim Walsh, and assistant horticulturists Meghan McCarthy and Josh Elyk.
Living Plant Collections and Research
The living collections hold more than 2,500 taxa in total. The Rhododendron collection alone exceeds 250 taxa, most of them bred locally in Atlantic Canada; the Hosta collection approaches 100 cultivars; and the alpine collection draws from nearly every major mountain range on Earth. The Garden also runs an active rare plant programme that targets several endemic species restricted to the limestone barrens of the Great Northern Peninsula, including species such as Salix jejuna and Braya longii, both rated Endangered by COSEWIC.
Teaching and Cultivar Trials
Between 2008 and 2017 the Garden served as a trial station for BallFlora, one of North America’s largest developers of new plant cultivars, and since 2014 it has been an official test garden for All-America Selections (AAS), evaluating new annuals and perennials as part of an international network. These programmes make the Garden a working field laboratory for Memorial University’s biology, environmental science, and horticulture students, who attend site-based courses, internships, and applied research placements throughout the year.
Volunteers and Seasonal Events
Volunteers are organised through Friends of the Garden (FOG), whose members commit to a minimum of 15 volunteer hours per membership year and receive a range of garden and gift-shop benefits in return. Beyond its open-to-public role, the Garden runs a year-round programme of seasonal events: Twilight Thursday, Sunday Bird Walks, Seedy Saturday, and Kayaks on Oxen Pond in summer and autumn, closing the season in late November with the Merry & Bright Holiday Light Festival, presented by IG Wealth Management.
