除图像库与博客外,Primula World 还设有 Herbarium 页面,按 A(哈佛大学标本馆)、BM(伦敦自然历史博物馆)、E(爱丁堡皇家植物园)、K(邱园)、PE(北京中国科学院植物研究所)、KUN(昆明植物研究所)等代码列出 50 余家国际标本馆已上线的樱草属标本链接,以及 Barnhaven 等高山苗圃、American Primrose Society、VIRAGS(温哥华岛岩石与高山植物学会,gardeningeye 第 188 站)等同行网站将其列为推荐参考。
Author Background and Career
Pam Eveleigh is a Primula and alpine gardening enthusiast based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She is a founding member of the Calgary Rock and Alpine Garden Society (CRAGS) and has served for many years on the Board of Directors of the American Primrose Society (APS). Since 2002 she has been APS WEBMASTER, making her one of the most prominent independent experts in the documentation of North American Primula species and image archives.
Origin of the Website and the Species Image Library
Primula World was started by Pam Eveleigh in 2000 to satisfy her own need to identify the Primula seedlings she was growing from seed-exchange lists. After scanning hundreds of slides into her computer she realized the image reference would be useful to other growers, and the site grew into a comprehensive visual reference of photographs and herbarium annotation links for species, subspecies and varieties of the genus Primula, drawing on the Flora of the Primitive Plant Records, Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae, the Flora of Bhutan, and the Flora of North America.
Companion Blog and Field Exploration Records
The companion blog at primulaworld.blogspot.com has been published continuously since 2014. Posts record the bibliographic trails and historical field notes she uncovers while searching for the exact definition of each species, including the type localities of Primula buryana and P. wollastonii (collected by A. F. Wollaston on the 1921 British Mount Everest reconnaissance expedition through the Chumbi valley), the taxonomic history of the Sakhalin endemic Primula sachalinensis, and the 2018 new species Primula luteoflora with its new variety P. bullata var. delavayi. She has also traveled to Yunnan and Sichuan on field expeditions, and her 2014 China trip photo record is preserved in the China2014 subpages.
Herbarium Network and Alpine Garden Practice
The Herbarium page of Primula World links the online Primula holdings of more than fifty international herbaria by their Index Herbariorum codes (A, BM, E, K, PE, KUN and others), and the site is recommended by Barnhaven, the American Primrose Society and VIRAGS as a primary reference. Eveleigh herself grows nearly seventy Primula species in Calgary’s dry climate using local Rundle rock, tufa and sandstone in over thirty small hypertufa troughs, with her cultivation, hand-pollination and seed-raising notes published on the Growing, Hand Pollination and Growing From Seed subpages.
