保护工作

年会与活动

History
The Carnivorous Plant Society was founded in London in 1978 by a group of enthusiasts. It became a registered charity in 1981. The society was initially chaired by John Watkins and held early meetings at Hammersmith Town Hall. In its founding year, the society exhibited at the RHS Summer Flower Show, winning a Silver Lindley Medal, and published its first journal in autumn 1978. Renowned expert Adrian Slack contributed an article on the cultivation of Drosophyllum for the inaugural issue.
Publications
The society publishes two issues of the Carnivorous Plant Journal and four issues of the Newsletter annually, both provided to all members. Content includes horticultural guides, research papers, conservation updates, book reviews, and member correspondence. The society also organizes annual shows across England and Wales, offering members opportunities to trade, exchange, and purchase rare carnivorous plants.
Seedbank
Established in 1981, the society’s Seedbank provides members with access to seeds of over 30 carnivorous plant species through exchange programs. The Seedbank is one of the society’s most valued member benefits, helping growers obtain rare varieties from around the world. The society maintains a Seedbank Policy to ensure sustainable collecting practices and fair distribution.
Conservation
Protecting wild carnivorous plants and their habitats is central to the society’s mission. The CPS collaborates with international organizations including the International Carnivorous Plant Society (ICPS) on global conservation initiatives. The society organizes regular field trips to help members understand the natural ecosystems where wild carnivorous plants thrive.
Annual General Meeting and Events
The society holds its Annual General Meeting and Plant Day each year, providing members with opportunities to share research, meet the committee in person, and participate in plant trading. The CPS also partners with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to host carnivorous plant exhibitions. Upcoming events in 2026 include the Hampshire Carnivorous Plants Open Day from May 23–25, featuring a wide range of species and hybrids, compost, pots, books, and sundries.
